So California started peaking and having more of a spread AFTER they mandated masks.
Yeah, I looked at that wrong. Not sure TBH
We've still got roaming crowds of "protestors" here in Chicago who give zero fricks about any guidance, and are likely the ones driving our new cases. We all know who I'm talking about. Not sure what the situation in California was.

I have yet to see this question answered.
The answer is because the only thing they have definitively proven to do effectively is continue to promote covid-19 fearmongering.
Now answer this question: Why should a mask that may or may not prevent the spread of a virus that more than 99% of people survive with minimal to no issues be a determining factor in whether or not a business is allowed to be open?

Probably population density

This virus is going to peak everywhere that has a larger population. You can wear masks, not wear masks, stick your finger up your arse, do whatever you want.
This virus will spread at some point in a populated community unless you want to stay locked down forever
That shouldn't even be controversial.

I'm all for businesses opening and staying open. But I'm also for doing anything that is easy and likely limits the spread of it...namely wearing a mask and distancing. I don't look at masks as a political thing. I think, hey, surgeons have worn masks in surgeries for 100 years. There's a reason. A lot of the leading medical folks are saying it helps. It's transmitted via exhaled or projected droplets, and it's a lot easier for me to spit without a mask than wearing one

Summer and beach weather. Beaches here have been packed for two months now. Add in people's and businesses complacency when it comes to cleanliness and you have the cause for our recent spike.

Look, you can effectively stop a virus like EBOLA with tracing and quarantining
You cant stop one with asymptomatic patients and mild patients
How anyone ever agreed to try is absolutely mind boggling to me

Makes sense, but I was thinking that the reason for the spike in Florida (aside from their apparent rejection of all recommendations to limit the spread) is that because it's so hot there right now, everyone is inside where transmission is easier.

I hope that Louisiana is next to turn that corner.

My theory on Florida may be the same reason for the spike in Louisiana...as I believe it's been hot as balls for you guys too?

Either that or raining for 24 straight hours
Actually as far as summer heat goes it hasn’t been bad in BR. Still keeps a lot of people inside though.

That’s nice, but it doesn’t answer the question.
And you’re not a person in any position of power to determine whether or not a business is allowed to stay open, so it’s also meaningless.

One would think after how badly you screwed up trying to use California to prove this point you think you have previously in this thread, you wouldn’t try to claim it as a point anymore.
One would be wrong.

That’s nice. The people in positions of power to allow businesses to open or not obviously do.

I think, hey, surgeons have worn masks in surgeries for 100 years. There's a reason.
Did you also think hey, surgeons are standing over directly over open bodies for hours at a time where gravity would literally pull anything that comes out of their nose and mouth directly into?
Did you also think hey, surgeons need a way to protect themselves from random blood sprays and bodily fluid secretions that may end up coming from the open body they are standing directly over for hours at a time?
Did you also think hey, there is actual research out there that suggests masks don’t actually do anything effective in stopping patient infections during surgery?

Or according to scientists from other parts of the world, by aerosols. Which cloth masks do nothing for, according to pretty much everyone.

Do you make a habit of walking around coughing, sneezing, and spitting on other people? Because if so then you have way bigger problems than wearing a mask.

Masks. And we don’t bitch about wearing them. We just do what’s best and things get better and move forward unlike bass ackwards La that’s about to revisit phase 1

So after all of what you just said, your position is that you know better than all those people and so you're just gonna do what you want, or rather parrot whatever message you heard from Trump?
Even though he and some red state governors are clearly changing their tune.
Perhaps another way to think about it...do masks increase the spread of the virus? No. Do they limit the spread of it? More than likely yes, for similar reasons to which you just detailed (preventing fluids from entering you or leaving someone else).

Just curious which medical people/organizations were wrong about masks. I think most have been saying, yeah, we should, since the beginning.

I don't make it a habit, but those are all things that I have done near others before. I think the same is true for everyone. Having a physical barrier to catch some of that stuff helps.

The timing of the downturn has everything to do with getting the border counties/towns under control.
Texas got fricked by Mexicans crossing the border with covid.

Yeah, that actually may have helped. But judging by the discourse at the time and the attempts of Trump to minimize the potential spread of the virus, I'm guessing very few Republican voters would've followed that guidance.
In my opinion, we tried the shutdown to squelch it out, it didn't work, but devastating the economy further by shutting down again should not be an option. Take a common sense approach to managing it but keep shite open...distancing, capacity limits, masks, etc.

And you have an answer to none of it? Weren’t you just making a sarcastic comment earlier in this thread whining about people not answering questions?

My position is the “experts” we are supposed to be listening to for guidance on this have been wrong multiple times, contradicted themselves multiple times, and pushed a fear-mongering agenda from the very beginning.
quote:
or rather parrot whatever message you heard from Trump? Even though he and some red state governors are clearly changing their tune.
Go ahead and quote anywhere I’ve mentioned trump or red state governors in this thread. Or in my post history for that matter.
I’ll wait.

Does everyone walking around in full-bodied suits with 0 skin exposure increase the spread of the virus? No. Why aren’t we mandating that?
quote:
Do they limit the spread of it? More than likely yes,
Go ahead and support that with actual data. Legitimate medical research with on the efficacy of cloth masks in preventing the spread of disease would be fine. Or take any real world application data from a place like California that has mandated masks for a long time now.
Oh wait, you tried that already. How’d that workout for you?
quote:
for similar reasons to which you just detailed (preventing fluids from entering you or leaving someone else).
Interesting that you omit the parts about hovering directly over an open body for several hours. And the studies showing masks have no discernible effect on patient infection rates.
Speaking of studies, what about the ones that say wearing cloth masks can actually increase the risk of infection for the wearer opposed to no mask at all?
Or what about the fact that wearing a mask causes people to touch their face more, a known factor on contributing to infection of multiple illnesses?
So many questions for you to continue not answering.

Just curious which medical people/organizations were wrong about masks. I think most have been saying, yeah, we should, since the beginning.
You mean besides the CDC, the Surgeon General of the United States, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the World Health Organization?

A physical barrier like you hand, arm, or shirt? Do you not cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze?
