I will say the property taxes in some areas keep you from owning a home truly.
Had a buddy forced to sell a 3rd generation house on lake Austin only because they couldn’t afford the property taxes.

These were incarceration and arrests for victimless crimes, tobacco freedom, gambling freedom, gun rights, educational freedom, marriage freedom, marijuana freedom, alcohol freedom, asset forfeiture, other mala prohibita (defined as criminal in statute but "not considered harms in common law"), miscellaneous civil liberties, travel freedom and campaign finance freedom.
Leftists continuing to allow violent offenders to walk around the streets is "pro-freedom" as is abortion and smoking marijuana in public.

Yep, everyone talking about abortion but gambling and liquor laws suck in Texas
Weed too. They are 20 years behind the rest of the country. It’s legal just over the border in Oklahoma.

This.
This ranking was put together by the American Institute for Economic Research, a libertarian think tank. Definitely not a bunch of leftist kooks.
People are free to disagree but should probably disagree for the right reasons.

Well, nobody really wants to live in Oklahoma, now do they?

Texas legalizing gambling will be the death-nail for Shreveport/Bossier.

Do they still have dry counties in TX?
When I was young there were counties in Texas you couldn’t even buy a beer from a gas station. I know Cooke Co in north TX was dry. So was Gladewater in east TX

I liked New Mexico but for the life of me, I don't understand how they elect so many Democrats.

Travis, Williamson and Hays counties are out of control with their never ending increase in property taxes.

So Texas is less "free" than California??
So a state that will prohibit a parent from knowing what gender there child identifies as at school
Prohibits types of firearms that are legal to own in other states
Will make it impossible to buy certain gas powered lawn equipment in the near future
Seriously considered requiring car companies to govern their cars to a maximum speed
And seems to have a fetish for regulating anything that could be remotely risky or out of favor with the pearl clutching blue grannies is more free.
Utter horse crap.

Texas has some of the most restrictive laws in the country around gambling, sex (porn, strip clubs, etc) alcohol, weed and healthcare. Think it’s also at the top of the list for restricted books in schools and libraries.
I’m sure all of that is hurting it in these lists. Note the graph is “personal freedom” so things like lack of environmental regulations and pro E&P policies aren’t reflected here. I imagine this map would be largely flipped if it was “business freedom” or “commercial freedom.”

"Man I can't wait to make the adult decisions on if I want to have some weed, gamble a few bucks on a sports game and buy beer at all parts of the day on Sunday"- Said no one moving to Tx.

They are basing it on a study released by the Cato Institute, which is a libertarian "think tank" that, like most conservative institutions, is peacefully handed over to people that want America to be weak.

Can't smoke weed or have an abortion in Texas, for example. If you live in Texas, you have less rights than someone living in most other states. Pretty simple.

is this more abortion whining bullshite?

apparently we have some people on this board confused what personal freedom means though. they honestly think a state that has rules about when you can buy alcohol, bans gambling, and doesn't have legal weed should be ranked high on the personal freedom list just because it's in the south.

Texas is great, although I don't quite understand the gambling and liquor laws here considering how "freedom" oriented they claim to be.
There’s a lot of things Texas does that contradicts this whole image of being the last bastion of freedom that everyone has of them. The rankings maybe stupid, but they nailed this one.

How on earth aren’t Alaska and Wyoming 1 and 2? They barely have governments.
