This is exactly the mindset that people sit in Louisiana and let life just go past them. Next thing you know they're 58 living in Denham Springs with 2 jet ski's they don't use planning their next trip to Gulf Shores to slam white claws.

quote:Agreed. The reason is jobs. The scenery and heat sucks.
There’s very little scenery in the state outside of the hill country. The climate is absolute dogshit in the summer. The beaches in Galveston are trash. Dallas, Austin, and Houston are basically sprawled out, decentralized cities full of corporate chain restaurants where there is no walkability at all and you have to drive 15-20 minutes just to get to places
quote:Are you sure? Because, that would be good news for its prospects to remain a red state.
And to top it all off, Texas is basically a Bible Belt haven for white evangelical Christian boomers from California who want to flee the state’s political climate

Rather have cultura than cultcha.
to me, Houston and Dallas are a lot closer to New Orleans when it comes to this stuff than most of the people on here

I actually like San Angelo, Fredericksburg, Abilene.

Texas has very uninteresting and bland large cities.
Also many Texans are overly proud that they are from Texas, for no apparent reason.

I mean, you’re just wrong. The problem with New Orleans is you can live in a million dollar home and there’s section 8 within walking distance. If you live in a nice area in Dallas, there’s virtually no crime

I’ve actually enjoyed being in Midland for the past 9 years. It’s easy to bash West Texas, but I think life anywhere is just what you make of it. If you find folks you like and things you like doing, that place is great. If you spend your time being shut off and bitter because you only want to do things that you liked doing in another place, you’re going to struggle.

Incorrect. Tons of walkable neighborhoods in north Texas.

How Christian of you. You don’t sound psycho at all.

I've lived in Texas before, it's just not that great. It's a fine state. In terms of QoL, it doesn't hold a candle to most PNW and Northeast states. It's just that a chunk of people on this board who moved to Texas have never actually lived anywhere else that wasn't mandated by a job or the military, so they only have Louisiana to compare it to.
I grew up in the Bay Area. I prefer Texas.

And yet the population of Texas keeps growing while many other states are shrinking.

I wouldn’t say it’s one of the most overrated, but it’s more overrated now than 40 years ago.
It’s become a lot more diluted and it’s not as independent minded as it once was.

90% of these comments are coming from people who never even actually lived in Texas, just sprouting off shite when they visited 25 years ago. Mainly like my relatives in Bum frick Swampland, LA who don’t know a damn thing about Texas except that there’s “a lot of concrete and people” and that makes it bad.

My experience in Texas is somewhat limited, since I've only been to Houston and Austin more than 5x apiece, but both of those cities suck. Houston is mainly just because of the traffic though... Austin sucks in every way.

You would rather a walkable city in the US? Okay fair enough, then you have to deal with insanely high price of living (Chicago) or out of this world crime and poverty (SF) or both (NYC). Those are the trade offs in the Western World.
You realize people move to these sprawled suburbs in Dallas and Houston entirely to avoid black people? And people will continue to pay high property taxes to maintain this luxury. You clearly don’t understand what the entire real estate market in the US is driven by.

The taxes are high but the public schools/ facilities are top notch. So either live in Texas and send my kids to public school or pay the same amount or more per year to send my kids to private school in Louisiana.

Houston sucks. Can’t argue that. It’s a liberal welfare run metropolis, hot and sticky, worst traffic in America, crime, pollution, mosquitos the size of turkeys, property taxes higher than Snoop Dog, ect, ect. Austin is actually worse. West Texas is what earth will look like after the nuclear holocaust. East Texas isn’t bad if you like dating your cousin. North Texas sucks. Dallas is another shithole country, would much rather live in Ft. Worth. Texas Panhandle isn’t bad. Quiet and serene. Beautiful sunsets. Pretty dry though.
