Where you live shouldnt be judged by the standards you would judge a good vacation. Thats all ill say.
Most people need decent jobs, decent living costs, decent healthcare access, and decent community.
Even Paradise needs those elements.

It's just that a chunk of people on this board who moved to Texas have never actually lived anywhere else that wasn't mandated by a job or the military, so they only have Louisiana to compare it to.
100% spot on

And to top it all off, Texas is basically a Bible Belt haven for white evangelical Christian boomers from California who want to flee the state’s political climate. You know, the “dey terk our jerbs!” type. I’m a Catholic and I can’t stand evangelical Protestants. Absolute morons.

That’s pretty much the main reason why most people move to Texas: oil jobs

Yeah, we all work on oil rigs and praise the lord. You got us.

Wife and I moved to TX in 1989. Lived in Frisco area until summer of 2022 when we moved back to Louisiana to be closer to family and take care of aging parents. Loved Frisco, everything was new, ton of things to do in DFW area, watched Frisco grow from small Texas town of 6000 to city of over 250k. Now that we are back in Louisiana, I don't miss it. Traffic sucked, people everywhere, I pay less in property taxes in Louisiana on 3 properties in a year than I did in 2 months in Frisco. Very much enjoy being back closer to family and small town life.

Almost 59. That’s older than you probably!

Texas is too brown for me. Both the scenery and the people.

Texas has A LOT of options as far as what type of place you want to live. Big city, beach (Corpus), desert, pines, hills, lakes, etc.
Property tax is too high for my taste though.

quote:Hate to tell you this but this is a true statement about a LOT of states. My main beef with Texas and Oklahoma isn't the roads, it's their construction companies. They absolutely do not know how to design a construction zone for semis on major interstates. I don't know why they want to zig zag the lanes so much like a drunk designer or make sharp turns that require the trucks to slow down to 35 to avoid rolling or hitting barriers.
roads are garbage.

Can’t think of a single major metro in the US with year round weather worse that DFW.
For being ‘Freedom loving’ Texans they sure love passing some ‘Govern me harder daddy’ laws.
Would suck to have to move to Texas just to find a job.

It’s like any other state, depends on where at in the state you live. Living in Monroe is not like living in grande isle. Nor is living in Longview like living in San Antonio.

I will agree with you on roads. States like Illinois have great roads mostly free of debris. The amount of shredded tires on Texas roads makes the state look trashy.

yet the infrastructure and roads are garbage
That's 99% of the nation, and MOST nations. We build new neighborhoods like crazy, but hardly ever increase roads and lanes to accommodate the influx of people. It's all backwards.
