Tex Mex (what you find mostly in San Antonio and south) as a food is native to Texas. They used ingredients that were more localized (yellow cheese, beef, flour) which is distinct from other Mexican cuisines that are actually in Mexico.
Every food in America has origins that come from some other places. That is how colonialism works.
I guess we can say corn is a purely American thing.

At least in cities like San Francisco, Boston, and NYC, a significant portion of the taxes go towards good things like public transit and roads. All three of those cities have an organic feel and are very walkable. The food scene in those cities are also infinitely better than anything Dallas, Houston and Austin have to offer.
Just starting this thread but I imagine this upset some folks

San Antonio is underrated, not overrated. Especially after the last 10 years of development.
Keep in mind no one that lives in SA goes to the downtown river walk. That’s for tourists. Much better places: Pearl and Southtown for action, Alamo Heights, Boerne, Bulverde, Northside for families.
It is miserable hot for 6 months

my personal opinion texas and florida are both great places to live to raise a family. I personally like all 3 major cities in texas, especially the suburbs more than i do orlando. I prefer the panhandle and being close to the beaches more than either. but im the weird one, i like the atlanta suburbs and a lot of georgia....i think a lot of alabama is nice AF and i think lafayette is a great place to live and raise a family.
Atlanta burbs are just as good as anything Texas has. I do agree on Alabama. There are pockets that are really nice like Huntsville, Fairhope and the Birmingham burbs. Lafayette is easily a top 3 place to raise a family in Louisiana by a wide margin.

People from San Antonio absolutely go to the river walk. Lol

Also there are 146 Catholic Churches in Houston serving 1.7 million Catholics so you’re wrong about that too.
The overwhelming majority of Catholics in any of the Texas triangle cities are Hispanic non-white. Those aren’t the “Catholics” I’m referring to. When I say Catholic, I’m talking about old-stock Polish, Italian and Irish families who immigrated to Northeast and Midwestern cities like NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Cleveland, etc. There’s a stark difference between that and the evangelical Bible Belt culture that dominates religion in Texas.
Texas is home to one of the biggest evangelical megachurches in the entire country where most of the pastors are multi-millionaires. Prestonwood Baptist Church literally pulled in $300 million last year in revenue alone.

I’m anti mega church, but being catholic and dogging on mega churches is pretty funny. The Catholic Church is the biggest mega church in the world

The only really good food in Texas comes from it's immigrant class. The bbq is overrated.

You are correct. My bad. So is Americanized Chinese food a true cuisine class or is it just like Tex-Mex, a bastardization of a cultural cuisine.

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long long time. I quit eating in Houston ever since Marvin Zindler did those "Slime in the ice machine" and rat and roach reports.

But people in Texas have this sense of arrogance when it comes to flaunting their state as a paradise when in reality it isn’t.
Dude, relax. They are just comparing it to the places they’ve left (Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi)

Tex Mex
Might be the only thing not overrated about living here.
