It would be interesting to have a conversation with people that have lived in multiple places.
And/or talk about what they love about where they live. Instead of cutting down places they spent a weekend. And never lived.
I absolutely love my weekends in BR and/or NOLA. But living there is not something I want to do after 30+ years.

The 2 bedroom craftsman I grew up in, in a family neighborhood in Palo Alto, is worth $2.5MM
That’s absolutely insane. There are regular working class families in the Midwest and Deep South that have been working for 20-30 years and yet still come nowhere close to having a net worth that high. And I would bet that a $2.5 million net worth is probably mediocre in the Bay Area.
Imagine being gifted a situation like that where you become a multi-millionaire without even having to work for it.

To be fair, Houston would feel like Manhattan to anyone who spent their entire life living in a rural state with very few cities.

This is underselling it. Most industries in Texas allow for a much better career trajectory than in Louisiana. It isn’t close.
1000% this is pretty much the only reason people need to relocate anywhere. Texas could have awful schools and awful overall QOL but if living there sets your career up long term then it’s a no brainer.
End of discussion

Dallas checks almost any box a family needs to raise a family. Shocker, huge population growth and some of the top rates communities in the country.

Not to mention how they brag about being independent and the "lone star state", yet they've hopped on the backs of other countries throughout their existence.
Texas needs countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia; their economy massively relies on those nations.

No city is safe. You think this stuff doesn’t happen in your Great Lakes states?

The beaches in Galveston are trash
The water is brown. Yes. But if it were blue water and white sand you'd complain it was too expensive to live.
I have a place down there. I spent today on the Sea-Doo and catching blue crab from my dock. Watched the spoonbills and the pelicans with my morning coffee and sometimes hear the coyotes howl at night. Oh yeah, had a beach bonfire last night with my kid and some friends. It was all quite lovely.
I wasn't born in Texas, but it isn't overrated. It has provided generously for my family and all of my kids want to live here, including my LSU student.

I can’t say it on here without getting banned.
But your kids will have a better experience in schools and what not.

It’s good if you’re just starting out with a family and need a comfortable home that’s affordable. But for people who have just graduated from college and are currently single, it’s a terrible place to meet young people. Everything is too spread out and decentralized for there to be a nightlife where young adults can congregate at.

Alamo heights is cheap. But there aren’t a lot of great jobs in SA
Memorial, highland park, and west lake in Austin are all insanely priced. You’re better off living in a small town or city and sending your kid to a private school.

Would you if you were going to have 4-6 kids?
It works out if you have 1-3 kids. But then, the private schools in Dallas, Houston, and even SMH in San Antonio are superior to Louisiana’s private schools

Uptown, Knox and Henderson.
Dallas is poppin. It is arguably better than Austin.

Have you ever been to Dallas? Legit question

Found another typical, arrogant Yankee. Nobody retires and moves north to Ohio.

eople are only moving to Texas for two reasons: cheap living
10 years ago…sure. I moved here for work. Met a Texas girl, marriage with kids etc. We have rental assets and a house that is almost paid off in a very nice part of DFW. We are “pot committed” to use a poker term for staying in the state
Texas is such a broad state everyone can find what they are looking for. It is not a great outdoor state like say TN or FL. There is a good business environment and the schools for now are still strong in our ISD.
And thank god this state is not heavily Catholic. That is a huge upside in my book
