Why didn’t he just let them see his phone?
Not saying he deserves a beating over it, but seems like an innocuous request to catch a beating over. Especially when you’re in an interrogation room with 3 of them.

Because this isn’t ChiCom China. And it’s absolutely not innocuous. The cops aren’t your friends in this situation.
