The kid brought a homemade device that resembled a bomb, there are more then likely set in stone procedures for responding to a call about a fake bomb, and those might include detaining for questioning you ignorant prick.

so you pull him in the principals office, get the local bomb squad to check it out in the mean while, they open it up and realize there's no explosive charge

A clock? Of all things, he built a clock?
It is suspicious. Maybe his parents are terrorists or were influenced by terrorists to make a little trial run on seeing how the school would react to a student with a homemade clock. Like some of the trial runs made by the 9/11 hijackers getting box cutters through security. The NASA shirt is just to throw off authorities and the public. Of all days, he happens to dress like a Star Trek nerd on this day? . Hmmmmmmm. And who took that photo other than his parent or guardian to be released to the public? Sounds like the whole event was staged for the purpose of making the public put its guard down by making this kid into an innocent victim.
Next clock made and taken to the school is treated differently due to the SJW outcry of racism and islamaphobia at the school. School officials allow said clock to be shown and displayed until.......kaboom!
We need to patriot act his parents and any known associates with vigor until we arrive at the correct analysis of this clock making incident.

Do you know what a bomb looks like?
One things these all have in common is there is something that is made to explode, even in the fake pic. A box of wires is no bomb.
The kid maybe should of explained his project better, but shame on the school for calling the police in on this.

I'm not as overzealous as you with my assumptions but there a things in his statements that don't mske sense:

The fact that a teacher told him to hide it tells me that the object had no business being at the school. The original teacher should've confiscated it and given it back after school. He dropped the ball in my opinion. I never said anything about the boy trying to be humorous. I said that the school administrators don't have much of a sense of humor or much tolerance.

Is there a photo of the clock? Are there visible distinctively colored wires in which cutting the wrong one means certain death? Is it duct-taped to a bunch of bars of white clay? A big ACME stamp on the back?
