Give Fonda San Miguel a try and Manuel’s. Both are very good.

Dallas really doesn’t have a unified identity. People live in certain areas, either parts of the city or suburbs, and each of those have individuals identities made up of the people there.

It doesn’t matter, really. We have a group of 10 La people we hang out with, watch LSU, boil crawfish, etc.

This. Dallas is becoming a big city shithole just like the rest in the USA.

Dallas’ identify is being home to the most notorious TD poster of all time, Mingo.

Dang. A lot of yall don't know shite but sure like to talk. If you go to uncle julio's you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

As for those that say dallas proper is slums. Have you ever been to uptown or victory park? Righttttt, you've only stayed at the Marriot downtown and went to fair park.

2 good airports, a bunch of suburbs, crazy bad traffic, plus constant construction on highways, hot as hell in summer, cold as hell in winter, droughts, tornadoes, hail.

Like others have said, Dallas has a lot of corporations headquartered here, and not just the ones most people have heard of. There are all sorts of small and midsize Tech, Bio-tech, Gaming, transportation and retail corps here and so you get all the companies that support those corps including big law firms. So there are a lot of Type A people running around, trying to be top of the heap. There are just as many laid back people but the Type A's make a lot of noise so I suppose that's Dallas' identity, which manifests itself as pretentiousness.

My picks would be Weatherford or Mineral Wells. I hunted over there during college and thought they were cool little towns.

Is there any town within an hour/hour & a half from downtown Dallas that a country peckerwood would feel comfortable living in?

There are plenty just outside the metroplex. Weatherford, Decatur, Bridgeport, Aubrey, Pilot Point, just to name a few.
