Worked out great I would say. I would have been stuck going to the ghetto public schools in NBR...where teachers are basically babysitters and education isn't really valued.
Instead...I actually got to get a pretty good education for a poor child in public school in BR.

My bad. That's weird. Maybe it's free if the teacher recommends or something.
If it was $400, I'd just spare my kid the test and tell him he isn't gifted.

It’s free if the teacher requests. The people you know must not have had a teacher recommendation.

The field trips were mostly in middle school at Paul Breaux. The only gifted field trip at Lafayette High I remember was the Texas Renaissance Fair. We did go to Cape Canaveral and Disney World for physics but that wasn't gifted.

Maybe. I might have gotten knocked up by some guy at Glen Oaks High at 16 and moved to Mall City and popped out 5 kids

It wouldn’t have made a difference for us anyway. He’s taking Algebra I as an 8th grader and excellerated classss without the gifted label. He’ll also start earning Tulane credits next year as a freshman. FTR, we don’t think he’s gifted, but he’s pretty damn bright.

Is that not normal? Maybe it is. It was a big deal to him that he scored one of the highest in his class on the placement test and got into algebra 1. I just go off what he says.

I sucked at math in HS. I don’t think i took algebra I until I was in 10th grade maybe 11th

The downside of not going. My older two(17 and 13) both went to a small private primary school with one class per grade. There was no gifted program. They both were frustrated at times in class bc the teacher would teach down to the class, meaning the lower end of the grade.
As my older one got to high school, he really took off bc he was able to enroll in to honor's, A/P, or dual enrollment. I expect my 13 y.o. will do the same when she gets to high school.
