So, I went to the Tesla site. The estimate for my house is $81,500, which will generate ~50% of the power my house needs.

Yeah, my power bill is ~$175 a month. That pay back period is just a tad too long for me.

Hey, keep working on this stuff, and if some rich people want to blow their dough on this, cool.

78 years to get your hard costs back. Lol.

Renewables are great and I like the progress. However if you want clean energy, you should focus on Natural Gas and the effect that could have. It is much cheaper.

Price will guide the devlopment

By my estimates it would cost nearly $80,000 to roof my house with these, roughly 2500 sq. ft. under roof. i like the idea, but the cost are insane for materials, not considering labor.

They didn't factor in the other 80% that this roof is costing you on your federal income taxes when you're paying off the subsidies Musk gets.

Glass roof huh? What happens when it hails or my son hits a baseball up there?

Tesla claims they're class 4 hail resistant. The test is to drop a 2" steel ball from 20 feet up on the same spot twice and it can't have any visible damage, even under 5x magnification.

They'll be okay. Still expensive as hell, though.

Tesla is the largest government subsidiary business in the U.S.

We are all paying for each person's purchases.

They must mean a normal roof with solar panels. Big difference.

This would be the obvious comparison. Solar roof vs solar roof.

I'm guessing they are comparing costs to a high end home in the area - which I am assuming is California. so they comparing with much higher labor costs and doubt they are looking at composite shingles. More like tile/slate.

It still seems like the numbers are off though. But closer than appear when comparing to starter homes with Baton Rouge construction rates.

Its going to sweep the country.

You get to cut your electric bill to net 0 if your houses roof is free of tree shade and the roof has surfaces at angles and facing #notNorth.

I hope it's durable and can take wear and tear.

Al Gore says in thirty years after the sea level rises, we will all be standing on our roofs, tight?

So you think roof solar panels will deliver 15,435 kilowatt hours per residential customer annually (which is the average annual per house electricity usage in Louisiana)? To generate that much electricity your roof will have to be the approximate size of 2/3 of a football field.
