No one has been able to articulate why Tesla is anything but yet another Silicon Valley company with a bloated valuation.

When Tesla accumulated 500,000 preorders for the Model 3, an optimistic view that they would be able to fill all those orders at a timely rate made a tech-industry-style high valuation seemed reasonable. Tesla had never produced cars at that rate, but the Model S and Model X were seen as successes, so they were given the benefit of the doubt.

Now that it's clear that Tesla has utterly failed at reaching their projected 5,000 cars a week build rate, it's a wonder that the stock has not crashed (it's the cult of Elon). Because they are not shipping all these cars that they were expecting to ship this year, it looks like they will run out of cash if they don't do some more fund raising. I don't think they will raise enough cash by pre-selling the Semi, Roadster, etc.

Musk is very good at fundraising... that's pretty much all he's doing. I feel he's going to get busted at some point for fraud

I've been a skeptic long enough to get crushed on this site for my opinion on Musk, but I don't think he's commuting fraud. I don't think he's deliberately lieing, but more like negligence.

Hype doesn’t turn a profit. Neither does Tesla

Gene Simmons is laughing at you.....

The ones that have been delivered have pretty bad build quality. Also can't open the trunk while charging the car. What an idiotic design flaw.

Looks like you could partially close the charger door and open the trunk... or disconnect, close the door, open the trunk, open the door, and reconnect.

Maybe I’m wrong.

You could, but why? Lazy design. If you're charging in your garage and need to open the trunk you should be able to just open the trunk.

But hey, look on the bright side. Tesla is now building the Model 3 in tents outside the factory to try and up the production numbers. I've always wanted a car built in a tent.

Holy cow, how did that get all the way to production?

That should have never made it into production. Do they not test these at all?

Stock up 4% today though....

Everyone I know that has one loves it. They certainly have issues and I agree Musk over promises. But I'm far from believing they are a failure or doomed at this point.

They produced 7K cars last week, 5K were model 3s. It’s probably just a burst rate but they have fixed many of the issues plaguing them at the beginning; the batteries are being produced at 5K/week and they’ve managed to solve the issues with the paint shop and the battery attachment process.

They invited everyone with a preorder to purchase a vehicle for delivery within 2-4 months, but that’s only for the extended battery with the premium upgrade which starts at 49K, more then half of the pre-orders don’t want that version of the car. If Elon wants to repair the damage he’s done he needs to start pumping out the standard battery model that starts at 35K, that’s the only positive press a lot of people care about.

At 5k per week that is over two years for delivery for the last person on the list.

They are building them in tents in the parking lot of their factory in California.

Goes to show you how special someone like Steve Jobs was/is. We all really wanted Elon to be successful which allowed this to go on for so long. It is the kind of thing that would make us all leap forward like Jobs did with the iphone.

They were intentionally slowing delivery through 6/30 so the $7500 credits would not be cut in half.

Now it’s go time.
