That’s where you’re wrong. I’m not anti-Tesla. There are situations where for some an electric vehicle makes sense. For those people and those situations, I’m all for them getting an EV if that’s what they want.

But I am realistic and recognize there are limits and drawbacks with EVs as there is with literally everything in life.

frick the Wright Brothers. They made a plane that goes up in the air, but is that plane going to get me from NY to LA? All those emotional cultists who think these brothers are doing something sooooo groundbreaking, ha!!!

I mean, you called me emotional and a cultist because I was speaking about facts, while you were truly being emotional and speaking about something you had no idea about and being negative about it. If that's not an anti stance, well, it is an obvious anti stance.

I agree. So are you going to tell me what I've said that makes me soooo emotional or nah?

Ah, the "I was wrong because I have a life" and "you were correct because you don't have a life" defense.

But he's not emotional, folks.

With a range of 500 miles (at best) that will kill any truck driver's day. 500 miles is a good start to the day for an OTR driver.

As much as I love the Tesla Semi, this is true. Traditional 18 wheelers can go 2000+ miles in a single tank.

I imagine that the first models are intended for regional transport only, with the goal of perfecting the technology to the full cross country requirements at a later date.

And what is making all that electricity for those mega chargers? That's right, natgas and coal.
But wait pimpbobi, it's California they use wind and solar. Well yes to some extent. But this is why they can't handle the load they already have. Adding megachargers will make it worse.

Ypu can't argue with math.

Idk who I’m responding to but for the guy who said Tesla knows best etc, go rent one from Turo. I love mine but if you’re super charging a battery consistently to maintain efficiency then the O&M will outpace any gas savings imo. My Tesla was 326 miles and after 30k put in, it’s at 299 with minimal supercharging. At load going over 70mph that goes down to 160

Even with nothing inside, the bed is quite heavy. I think 500 range was just the truck

They might not even have to go 50 miles at a time let alone 500

So really what does it matter

Let's just say it's real world 300 miles

That's way further than trucks of this purpose need to go in a day.

The delivery trucks for gas stations are not near it

No one is arguing otherwise, or I should only speak for myself and say, i'm not saying otherwise.

If the range with the load isn't sufficient for what Pepsi Co needs, then why do you supposed they're making the purchase? Do you think there's been no extensive testing/assurances before making such a purchase?

The ford trucks have about 1/3 of the range when they tow. I wonder if pepsi is making a huge mistake.

Pepsi and similar modeled distributors don't drive all that far in a typical day when going from a bottling plant to local customers. Maybe 200 miles in a day.

As I mentioned the fact they can go 2,000 miles without refueling is completely irrelevant because drivers are limited to 14 hours of work in a day. Unless it is a team they can not drive anywhere near 2,000 and get their legally mandated 10 hours of non-work in a 24-hour period.

Exactly, for local distribution these make perfect sense.

It's the same reason I'll be putting several hundred of the Chevy EV trucks in my fleet next year.

You bring up a great point and why autonomous semis are the goal.

An autonomous OTR truck could spend 1 hour charging for every 2 hours driving and still have a miles-per-day advantage over a human driver.
