I started replying to his post, because I am really curious what kind of rates he was paying and if the municipality had some kind of extra tax on it. He's one of my favorite posters and I believe him, but something just seems off if he was payiung anything near the cost of gas. I looked at my last two charges, which weren't alot, it was just topping off on my way home because I had a trip planned the next day. My last two charges were about $9.73 and $13.73. I believe the $9.73 took me from 30% to about 84% if I remember correctly. My monthly elec bill is about $120 during the spring and fall for a 1100 SF home.
Someone asked about chips. I have a model Y and have not had any issues. The roof of Model Y's are sunroofs, so there is more glass than a vehicle with a metal roof. I keep a sunshade on it during the summer and will take it off in a few months.

How much is the EV infrastructure fee. That's the only thing that matters when comparing costs between EV and ICE.

Thats going to depend on your house. I paid $500 for the install and whatever the cost of the charger is. But my house was easy because i have a sub panel in the garage. A long run would obviously add cost. Plenty of people just get a plug installed and just use the travel charger too. My MIL has been doing that for years. We have the dedicated Tesla charger.

Teslas are a huge hazard on the roads. Almost as bad as Altimas. Not bc of the cars—the cars are fast. But the drivers are mind numbingly slow and often distracted. I can always count on a Tesla going below the speed limit in a left lane or not moving when a light turns green. It’s usually a woman, or an Asian woman, or an Indian driving or someone staring at their phone.

Not to be a dick, but if $287 a year is a “HUGE” penalty to you, you should be worrying about other stuff, like getting a better job, instead of fighting over a couple hundred dollars on an Internet forum.

that's assuming i filled up enough over the course of a year that i was paying that much in state tax on each gallon of gas.

I can understand not wanting to spend it and it being a factor in choosing a vehicle, but if it is a “HUGE” problem, you should consider trying to get a new career. That’s like two nights of waiting tables at Applebees. It’s less than a dollar a day. Again, fine if it’s a factor in choosing a vehicle, but it being an all caps problem for you should be of concern to you unless you’re still a very young man/woman trying to work your way up in your job or starting a business and needing to save every last dime possible.

Comparing Tesla’s kWh Usage to MPG
Tesla vehicles don’t use gasoline, so they don’t have a traditional MPG rating — instead, they use MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent), which compares their energy use to the energy in one gallon of gasoline.
EPA energy equivalence
The U.S. EPA defines 1 gallon of gasoline = 33.7 kWh of energy kwcalc.com. This is the standard used to convert EV energy consumption into MPG equivalents.
Tesla’s average MPGe
Across all Tesla models, the EPA rates the lineup at about 113.6 MPGe on average, which equals 29.7 kWh per 100 miles forcar.org. This means a Tesla uses roughly the same energy as a gas car that gets 113.6 MPG.
Example conversions
From MPGe to kWh/mile:
kWh/mile = 33.7 ÷ MPGe
For Tesla’s 113.6 MPGe: 33.7 ÷ 113.6 ˜ 0.30 kWh/mile kwcalc.com.
From kWh/mile to MPGe:
MPGe = 33.7 ÷ kWh/mile
For 0.30 kWh/mile: 33.7 ÷ 0.30 ˜ 112.3 MPGe kwcalc.com.
Model variations
Efficiency varies by model and drivetrain:
Most efficient: Tesla Model 3 Standard RWD at ~139–142 MPGe (˜25–26 kWh/100 mi) MPG Buddy.
Least efficient: Tesla Cybertruck AWD at ~79 MPGe (˜42 kWh/100 mi) forcar.org+1.
Practical takeaway
If you think in MPG terms, a Tesla’s average energy use is about 114 MPG equivalent. That’s far more efficient than most gas cars, which typically get 25–40 MPG. In kWh terms, expect ~30 kWh per 100 miles for most Teslas, with higher kWh use for larger/heavier models.
Tip: For cost comparisons, multiply kWh use by your electricity rate to get “annual fuel cost” in dollars, then compare to gas car costs using the same MPGe/kWh standard
Most Charging Stations within 150 miles of me are 0.38 with two being 0.30 and one being 0.40kWh.
