Try to get a wrecked Tesla and rebuild it. Tesla doesn't allow it.
Plenty of videos on YT of this. I recommend Rich Rebuilds

You have any objective basis to think Tesla is in the wrong and explain why?
Or is it because Musk hurt your feelings so Tesla/SpaceX can no longer do any right ever.

I see this as pointing out issues with having connected cars as others have pointed out.
I trust neither corporations and especially the government to use this capability wisely....

So in other words, only believe the media when it reinforces your opinion. Gotcha.

The dealer replaced a 60 with a 90.
I'm pretty ignorant on this stuff so please bear with me. How was he able to do that?

Depending on the year and model at some point Tesla basically was only installing one battery pack but offering multiple models at different price points then using software to limit the accessible charge. This was actually a big deal when Florida had to storm evacuate and Tesla remotely opened up full depth of charge for anyone using their Tesla to evacuate to give them more range.
So it could be that this model always had a 90 battery and was limited and accidentally “opened” up when it was swapped or that the new 90, is in the same ess skid and would fit right in.

That seems to be the case. I wonder how it ended up badged a 90 though.

My money is on a used dealer or previous owner who realized it and ordered badges. I’ve seen enough dealers put FX2 badges on XLT trucks to be skeptical.

Trump would agree, take notice.
Trump put America first and I’m glad for that. Doesn’t mean he himself isn’t a dumbass. He would have had the best 8 years of any recent President if he would have just been decent at debating or speaking.

Those are the most likely scenarios.
I really would like to know the real history of this car not in order to pass judgment on any entity but it sounds like there might be an interesting VINWiki episode hidden in there.

Me too. Reading down the twitter thread, seems like Tesla has made the situation right but that there is at least one other person in the same boat. I’m guessing there might have been a system issue that’s just now catching these since they’ve replaced the comm modules for 3G sunset and probably running some diagnostics in their data repository. I know on those older units they were always a bit leery of trying to pump a bunch of data through them so they kept it to mostly update and fsd data payloads.

Durning that event a lot of owners were pissed to learn they had paid a substantial premium to access the full capacity of a battery that was physically already in every car.

I’m zero percent surprised that people were pissed about not having something they didn’t pay for. Most people are far to dumb to understand manufacturing efficiency and how that trickles down to unit economics.

Most people would be surprised to know that likely own a piece of electronics that is similar to this. For example, lots of televisions, especially those sold at discount chains like Walmart) have the exact same hardware as more expensive models sold at AV dealers and Best Buy etc that just have different firmware that does not enable a set of features.
Even something as random as a Fluke multi-tester I have has the same hardware as the next two models up but I just can't access the features.
Economy of scale just makes it cheaper to build more of the same item and just program them differently.

No disagreement there, but the psychology involved in how individuals view purchases and ownership is more complex, and will take a lot of work by marketing types to overcome.
