I believe one of the reasons governments are pushing so hard for electric cars is to have this type of control over the populace.

Cars don’t have to be electric for this to happen. OnStar been disabling cars for almost a decade when the cops ask.

I don’t think you know what “off grid” means if you are driving around in an EV.
I don't think you know what "off grid" means if you depend on a complex supply chain involving huge multinational corporations for your ongoing fuel needs.

No because that isn’t an EV issue. All cars are going this way and have been for the past couple years. Luxury cars the past 5-8 years.

Way to out yourself as not being an OT baller.

Tesla introduced what's going to be the most annoying new trend in cars. Subscription based options.
I read the other day about how heated seats in a certain car were going to be a $8mo option. So they can just turn off your options one day.

my off grid capable solar and storage with DC charging says otherwise.

As others have mentioned, pretty much all vehicles are this way, the drivetrain is irrelevant.

Why are people so worried about this, anyway? The minute the government shuts off my car I'll be armed and on my fricking bicycle headed to DC, and I'm sure I won't be alone.

What subscription has Tesla introduced? They built a car with one configuration for efficiency and programmatically restrict things that you can later open up for a fee. But there’s no reoccurring subscription fees that I’m aware of.

And that’s BMW doing the heated seat monthly fees.

People in this thread: “I knew it! See! This is proof Musk and Tesla is evil!”

What functional difference of dependency on the larger network between gas and superchargers.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to stockpile your own gas than your own electricity?

Manufacturer unlockable options never existed before Tesla.

No. Because even with stabilizers, you’ll struggle to have gas suitable for a car past a year no matter how big your stockpile is.

Whereas a reasonably attainable solar setup can power your car for decades.

So if someone swapped a 5.0 V8 in a mustang, sold it to someone else who then took it to ford for service, you'd be okay with Ford swapping the engine or otherwise messing with it without telling the owner because the car wasn't sold that way originally? We cant upgrade things we own anymore?

Except that wasn’t what happened.

The dealer replaced a 60 with a 90. No customer at any point paid for that.

Idiot deserves it. No one should buy a used EV, the batteries will cost more than the car. Forget the software reduction.

Tesla sold a brand new 60, just bc that car caught a technician sleeping sometime over its lifespan doesn't mean this dude's customer is entitled to it.

The truth sucks sometimes.

This is the same as a bank inadvertently placing a million $$ in your account. It was a mistake and legally not yours.

Tesla is legally in the right, however they should of let it go on an old model like that. Kind of like doing an engine swap in an ICE ride. They should allow for a 3rd party aftermarket, with the stipulation of Tesla warranty would be voided as well.

Crazy all the negative stories coming out about Elon and his companies recently. I wonder what could be causing this.
There have been negative stories about Teslas coming out for years now. It’s a piece of shite car and a company with an inflated stock. Once actual car manufacturers start efficiently pumping out EVs, Tesla will fall like a rock. Hell, Elon even knows this.
