Those types whose parents were born in the real Southside but then moved to Orland Park or Joliet or whatever in the 1960's and 1970's are the most hardcore. They're the kind that will go looking for a fight at a White Sox game.

For some of them, they simply don't have enough resources to move.
Chicago lost about 100,000 people between the 2000 and 2010 census, and the vast majority of those leaving were African-Americans from the Southside and far Westside who were fed up with the violence and decay and had the resources to move; the city actually got whiter and browner during the past two decades. The central part of the city, the Northside, and the near Westside have been growing like crazy while the Southside and far Westside have been emptying out.
For others, I think it's the only thing they've ever known and ever want to know and don't want to move. There are loads of kids who grow up on the Southside who have never been to downtown, as an example. It's hard for them to even conceive of a different life.
