Clean entire evaporator coil and ducts. Paint a couple of ceilings with oil base paint.

You may need to have it repainted again. Start with a double coat of odor block primer. That will help. As others have said clean your ductwork and coils/air handler. You also may need to pay attention to any cabinets, especially those which are not painted.

Put some vanilla on the light bulbs.
When you turn them on, it will smell like you are baking cookies.
Who doesn't like the smell of baking cookies.
Profit!!!!

Did you just paint, or did you prime first with an oil based primer? Kilz Original is one, and it will absolutely encapsulate the smoke smell, but you have to do the ceiling too. Latex primer and paint is porous and the smell will just bleed through. You can paint over the Kilz Original with any latex paint with no worries. Old timers will tell you you can't, but you can now with the advancements in even the lowest quality latex paint.

How a fire inside the house and burnt part of a room but the smoke damage was extensive and bad. The insurance covered a cleaning and they used a ozone machine or something like that to get rid of the smell. It worked but then the house smelt real bad of the ozone for a few days but that was about it. With it being a rental it should be no problem. I don't know how much it would run but you may be able to rent a machine.

just get a cat to pee in the house and then you'll quit complaining about the smoke smell.

Anybody have experience with an issue like this?
I have bought, renovated, and lived in several of my now rental properties. If anyone noticed a faint smell after the work you said you did, you just need to find better tenants because that's a ridiculous reason not to rent a house.

My moms neighbor was replaceing her AC, I took the inside unit to harvest the blower motor to use for ventilation in my shed. For the first 2 weeks I ran it smelled the smoke. I don't smell it now.

Get an O-Zone generator.
If you own a rental house it may be a good investment.
It works best for a whole house type application if you put it in the return vent a run the fan on your thermostat.
Let it run for a day, should be good to go.
Just make sure you keep the house unoccupied while the machine is running.

1st time it get real cold & a strong north wind blows open all windows. Much of the odor will disappears. Might take several days. If this doesn't work rent an ozone machine for a few days.
