I hate to say it, but it seems like the mom failed her son. How in the heck can you not notice your son is in deep, deep stress? Surely there were signs. Poor kid.
Of course they made fun of the kid. He wore a stinky shite bag. That made him a prime target. Kids are cruel as frick. The mom should have know that.

She will wonder how she missed it the rest of her days on earth. Her depression is going to be very deep and unrelenting.
This really hits home with me. In my employment I work with patients who have been thru this surgery. It's a life saving operation but also a life altering operation. The patients go thru deep depression after the surgery. I could only imagine the pain of bullying being put on top of that.
I hope everybody in the world that reads this story has the takeaway of being nicer to each other.

Not to be an arse but when you name your kid seven you tend to be an attention seeking whore instead of the type of mother that hardens your child to the harshness of the world.
It still sucks for the poor kid.

Sad stuff. I wonder if the kid in the OP had a father in his life since it only mentions the mother. I know my father was crucial in my upbringing on how to deal with other kids bullying. Basically it was “be a man and whip their arse.”
I followed advice. It worked. Instantly was left alone and ended up pretty popular

The larger issue is expecting a school district whose hands are tied because of the Catch 22 of reducing suspensions/no expulsions by the state while demanding they handle this kind of issue with an iron fist (which is more complex than just blaming the school system).

Could it have been partially due to having to go through 26 surgeries in his 10 years of life. It’s terrible he did it, but I could see the mom sensationalizing it because she craves attention, she named him 7
