And that indoor adventure place with cargo nets and ball pits and trampolines was in that shopping center.

I miss Rag's.
That old lady that used to peel potatoes right by the front door, while she made everybody watch soap operas, was a trip.

I read that St Tammany was dominated by long leaf pine trees that helped keep the understory trees and brush down. The first settlers said all the oaks throughout the parish were huge and that how open and clean the land was reminded them of parks in Europe. Indians did controlled burns in open areas to attract wildlife to the new growth and create ambush points for hunting.

Wasn't there a place called Pizza Safari near the Ford dealership between Covington/Mandeville?

I remember going to visit some relative who lived on the lake of Highway 22 between Madisonville and Mandeville. There was nothing around for what seemed like a mile. This was in the mid 1960's.

original Walmart
original wal-mart was where rouses is on claiborne hill in covington, then it moved to holiday square. next to the first wal mart was delchamps where big lots is now. on the end where the dollar store is now was k&B. on the other end where el portal is now was BJ's pizza. there was a video store in there as well and a curtis mathes tv store. where buds and the laundry is was shoe town. the mcdonalds across the street was the first on this end of the parish.
edit. the original walmart started out as woolco, i got my atari 2600 there

Is the Bay Club still open in Mandeville? They had a pool close to the boats.

I'm only thinking of Mandeville.
The last Shoney's I went to was near where the whole food location is now. Or was it on the north side of 22?

Is it true MJH was the old MHS?
Posted on 4/3/17 at 10:07 pm to Tchefuncte Tiger
We used to walk from Beau Rivage to Lewisburg through the Crystal Lake trail. That wasn't too long ago.
Also used to walk the trace and go shoot shite.
I think my first time shooting a pellet gun was in my pawpaw's back yard on Joyce Dr. Then, we moved to where Pelican Park is when it first got cleared.
Used to go swim at the yacht club damn near every weekend.

Funny thing about MHS is that they used portable buildings as classrooms back when my aunt was in high school 45 years ago. Still used them as of 02.
And Philebar was her English teacher

My grandfather owned about 30 slips behind PYC. We were there every weekend, swimming, and paddling up past the old train track with our pellet guns and compound bows. We made spears out of cypress limbs, string, and Bowie knives. Then, we would ambush beavers/nutria back there.
What a place to grow up as a kid.

I remember my old man telling me how, back in the 60's the Aquistapace in Covington was a Winn-Dixie I think. Anyway, they would usually just cover the produce outside the front enterance with a tarp when they closed. So he and his buddies and girlfriends would stop by there and steal a couple of watermelons and go to Bouge Falaya park. They'd build a fire, sitting around eating watermelon and drinking whiskey all night or until a deputy ran them off.
When he was a teenager, my dad and a friend of his found a dead woman floating face down in the river in Bouge Falaya. They reported it to the cops and never heard anything about it after that.
