Yea. BA total school district is 20k+ students.

. Even though they sit right by each other, Bixby, Jenks, and Union don't have to face off till later in the playoffs because of rankings

So Bixby & Jenks are in the same conference. So they do play in the regular season. Union is in a different conference, but they play Jenks OOC every year in the Backyard Brawl. They reshuffle every so many years. The eastern part of the state dominates Oklahoma football every year. Union, Owasso, and BA are in 6A District 2, while Jenks & Bixby are in 6A District 1.

I lived in Tulsa Union school district back in the 90's. It was like a college campus.

Went to some great concerts there back in the 70's/80's.

It’s still a very large and nice campus. Very large basketball arena and they just completed a new football stadium renovation.

I lived there for a couple of years in my teens and did like Tulsa, though we're mostly talking the southern suburbs. Went to Jenks HS which was pretty good. One of the reasons we ended up there is the schools in Baton Rouge were so crappy, my dad didn't want to pay for private school for 3 kids. Some relatives live closer to Oklahoma City than Tulsa but usually go to Tulsa on the weekends as they like it better.

It's a crap shoot, Tulsa is prone to ice storms. We literally went ice skating on the streets after one.

The house we lived in was destroyed by a tornado 6 months after we left, good timing on our part. But out of the dozen or so places I've lived I'd put Tulsa among the best.

I grew up in Tulsa but have lived in Oklahoma City for the past 40 years. My mother lives in Bixby, which is a suburb of Tulsa on the south side, so I still visit there often.

Tulsa is more scenic, but also more densely populated. OKC has a larger population, but is way more spread out and flat.

Low cost of living. It has some bad areas of town, but unless you live in one of those, you'd never have a reason to go to one of those.

The city is run pretty well and the people are generally friendly.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the local favorite football team due to being the closest by just a little bit over Dallas.

If you like to hunt and fish, lots of wooded area for that along with large lakes. Much better than the OKC area.

It isn't glamorous, but comfortable. It is a large city with a small town feel.

i guess i phrased that poorly. They may play each other in district or early season, but then they get put on opposite sides of the bracket based on rankings or record or something?

In Texas, you can get some real lopsided state championships because the best two teams came out of the same region or district and you have to go through that before you get to state semis or finals. you're much more likely to play somebody close to you in the first or second round of playoffs than finals.

this year my HS was ranked 1 and had to face the number 2 team in regional finals that was just about 2 hours away. lost by a TD and the eventual champion won the next two games by 30 playing teams from different regions all the way across the state.

Yea, just the way it falls. With their only being two districts in 6A Division 1, and those teams usually being at the top of their districts, they'll be place on opposite sides of the bracket and normally not meet until the Finals. Now, if one of them has a crappy season then they could meet earlier and be on the same side of the bracket. Recently though, Bixby and Jenks finish 1 or 2 in their district, then Owasso and Union finish 1 or 2 in their district, so they all end up on opposite sides.

Thats still possible in Oklahoma I guess. In recent years Bixby and Jenks have been in the same district and have been probably the two best programs in the state. This year, Jenks lost in OT to Owasso in the semifinals. Had Jenks won, then it wouldve been two teams from the same district playing each other for the title. So, it does seem Oklahoma sets their bracket up a bit more evenly.

Haha.

Hardwood runs are one of the only reasons I head to cities anymore. Hardwood suppliers and the airport.

Phoenix Hardwoods in OKC is a fantastic hardwood suppliers, the best in Oklahoma, but i usually go to DFW area because it's closer. I make hardwood furniture and cabinets in my frick off time.

There's a huge riverfront park that opened recently and will be 100 acres once fully built out- the Gathering Place. Funded with over $400million of private donations.

Philbrook Art Museum is nice, and recently hosted Antiques Roadshow. Former home of oil man Waite Phillips.

Lots and lots and lots of content for the "Cops" tv show was filmed there. That's all I've got.

IIRC, that is where the episode was shot where the cop pulled over a redneck that was drunk...cop knew the guy and asked if he had been drinking which the drunk redneck replied something like "a couple beers". Cop then asked him if he still smoked dope and the redneck answered, "nah, I gave that up". The whole time the guy has a joint tucked behind his ear. The cop removes the joint and says, "then what is this?" and drunk redneck answers with something like, "damn I'd forgotten about that or I probably would have smoked it"
