Frats could have parties at their houses. Live bands after football games.
Is this really not allowed anymore?

Not with multiple kegs of beer and a garbage can of jungle juice.

August 15th, 1995. I had just graduated HS and turned 18 on August 6th. I took that week from August 6th to the 15th off to get some drinking in.

The first bars were 1 mile away from campus by law. So 1 mile away had the Tiger, The Cotton Club, The Bengal, and others I don't remember. Drinking age was 18. The entire week before the Ole Miss games had the Ole Moss Riots, nighttime panty raids. The submarine races at the lakes...

I was always at Murphys, Fred's, and Soorts. But at some point on Sat nights we always left BR to go to the Fish or Southside/Aliens.

Kegs at the fraternity house - beer at the Student Union. Glad I lived through those times.

Animal House.
We came to reproduce Animal House. And other than getting kicked out of LSU, we came damn close.
As pledges, we had to source all the cane and bamboo we could to make the fencing around the fraternities South Seas compound. Good thing there was plenty to be found in some Southdowns yards. Man there was some ferocious old row partying during South Seas.

They don't sell beer in the Union anymore?

All the bars and nightlife were around the north gates close to the frat houses and carlotta st area. That side of campus was one huge block party. When the bars started gaining popularity in Tigerland and the mega apt complexes started building, it spread everything out and calmed things down.

I don't believe Bogies gained traction until late 90's (1996-97?).

"I remember running through the wet grass" on bid day from the Union, but the Ben Wynn deal was tough on every fraternity. I think that was the beginning of intense scrutiny on the fraternities. Murphy's closed soon thereafter (I can remember sorority girls being carried away from Murphy's in shopping carts). In late 90's, early 00's the Greek system imposed heavy regulations on everyone and one by one, the fraternities have been picked off.
Murphy's closing gave way to the rise of Bogies.
We would have exchanges every Thursday with a different sorority and would meet at the fraternity house before and race to the sorority house to get first selection. I remember running into the house with all of the girls standing there and sorting through each to make the selection of who I would take the bar for the exchange. What a glorious time!

Looking back, running into the sorority houses like that still makes me laugh. The ride to the bars were always fun.

Chicken could be seen at this bar called Ernie's on tuesday night mean mugging down with some strange. I think it was $.25 draft night of Natty Light and Drivin-n-Cryin blaring in the background.
