My nephew is talking about maybe going to Sewanee. I don't know much about it. Wiki tells me it is a liberal arts college. Will going there turn him into some flaming SJW?

Yes it will probably turn him into a well-rounded, reasonable person

Yes. Liberals get their degrees at these colleges.

Former board member and father of an alumnus. Excellent school, expensive and mountainous. More libs than conservatives for sure. Some SJW crap but not overwhelming.

Liberal arts =/= liberal. It just means that the college has a core curriculum emphasizing a broad background and critical thinking. Usually it also means lots of writing across the curriculum.

Maybe true but here's an anecdote.

Guy in my Tulane law school class went there. Law Review and worked at White & Case out of law school. And is incredibly normal as well.

So as most things, it's what you put in to it.

Liberal arts just varies so much

If you get a poli sci degree and most of your classes are like "race privilege and voting" and "feminism and the courts" then sure, you're going to turn into a SJW or you'll kill yourself first

Or, you can go get the same degree and take "Thatcher and the Cold War" or "Pinochet's government 1980-1989" or "intro to federal indian lands law" and you may not. No reason you can't get a heavy dose of academic rigor in lib arts.

I had a couple law school classmates from Sewanee

Both were a little off, but both were smart and well liked. Both very successful.

It's old school, which is a good thing for liberal arts.

Affiliated with the Episcopal Church...actually owned by several dioceses of the church. It is a big seminary for the church as well.

I would guess that whatever your view is of the Episcopal Church might be a good guide for what you think of Sewanee.
