It floods there. Stay here in New Orleans where it's safe

I do get a nice kick out of that. It can get hot here, for sure, but it's nowhere near as oppressive as S. LA. It at least cools down at night here.

I know this is a joke, but I'll respond anyway.

It had a bad flood, yes. Homes, businesses, and schools were under water. Know what happened? The city picked itself up by the boot straps and fixed itself in short order without a media frenzy. It was a devastating flood and the city came back with a quickness and with very little help.

Also, they have fixed a lot of the things that caused it.

Humidity (except for last couple of weeks) isn't in the same realm as S. LA. I love hearing people bitch about the heat here when they can escape it with simple shade. Shade doesn't do shite in S. LA when the air is basically water

nope, Chattanooga has a good growing job market. It's just smaller because it is a smaller city. Outdoor activity wise, Chattanooga has very similar but closer proximity to a lot better. Public schools is where we hurt the most, but we have some of the best private schools in the state to make up for it. Especially GPS and McCallie.

I'd still take the surrounding Knoxville area over anything for personal bias reasons.

winter is prevalent

seriously though, it'll snow and it'll get cold. Not Chicago cold or anything, but it does suck sometimes. BUT the humidity isn't even close to as terrible as NOLA in the summer. It's give and take.

I actually love Nashville, and I live in Austin. Some great sections. If you have kids, I would opt for Franklin or Brentwood. I am single, and if I had to move out of Austin, I would opt for East Nashville, or Denver. Music Row lately has certainly become douchebag on Broadway, but in terms of the live music scene, Austin and Nashville gets my nod. They have really developed a great alt country, string band, and indie scene in East Nashville.

You have seasons in Nashville. Their summers are pretty nice compared to Nola and especially Memphis. Spring and Falls are great.

Best part of a Nashville summer. Can relax on the patio with a nice cool night and watch what seems like millions of lighting bugs. Hell, my wife usually puts a sweatshirt on for summer nights here. That is what sucked about S.La, the nights are more unbearable than the days it seems

The heat is all sun driven. No sun, its completely fine.

South Louisiana has hot, wet air that never goes away. Its what gives it that unique smell.

It's great. I'm 27 and engaged for reference. Live downtown.

Traffic definitely sucks

Williamson co has the best schools in the state and top 10 in the country iirc

Housing has gotten expensive. Gentrification is occurring so I suggest doing your due diligence on the next area/s within Nashville to buy as low as possible in hopes of making a good investment. Donelson comes to mind as well as Woodbine.

Lots of family things to do. It's a city

COL has risen but still decent for what you get IMO. But Nashville is experiencing major growth so COL will obviously continue to rise.

You'd hate the traffic I guess? You'd love the security. It's much safer. Music scene is great, and it's not just country like folks think. New amphitheater is being built and is already booked with a ton of great shows. Preds frickin crush, so that's cool these days.

I'll agree with this.

27 and married, no kids, live near downtown in neighborhood.

Are the people saying it isn't a good place to raise a family saying that because it's not the suburbs, or is there a better reason?

LOL

You have multiple "strips of entertainment". We could stay in Midtown/Demobreun and bar hop all night or stay downtown and bar hop all night. Both areas have at least a dozen bars. 12 South is also great to walk around in.

12 South, realistically, is only about 100 yards of options. Same can be said for 21st ave. The area by one of the golf courses (decent taco restaurant is right by the course) is honestly 4 or so bars/restaurants. I guess I should have phrased it all a little differently. I find Charleston/New Orleans is a lot more "compact" than Nashville. Naturally, that makes our entertainment/dining/bar options appear more abundant because they are all crammed in. I just felt like we were constantly ubering to different spots in Nashville. That said, I'm still fairly new to the city and was constantly turned around.

Low crime, great schools (both public and private), awesome outdoor activities (mountains, lakes), and great neighborhoods both in and out of the city.

Not sure how anyone could possibly say this isn't a fanfrickingtastic place to raise a family.

This.

I live in Franklin and would not dare leave here to go back to Louisiana if I had a child in school.
