Me too, Village East. I wouldn't live there now.
Lafayette Woods me.
I forgot to mention Chester’s Cypress Inn in Donner has the best fried chicken in the world. There’s no other reason to go in the direction of Morgan City unless you got a duck lease near there.

I spent a good bit of my free time in the woods between VE and Lafayette Woods. We had trails all over back there.

Yup. Those trails were quite amazing. We had one that went from LW to the Intracoastal. There were some great dirt features in there for bikes/dirt bikes. Long gone now. They off those areas and they grew over. And kids stopped riding bikes and dirt bikes like my generation did.

I had a good childhood growing up in the Village. Played football in the field between the houses, basketball, rode bikes all the way to South Terrebonne, fished in Bayou Terrebonne and the Intracostal, Went pick up pizza at Pizza express, one of the first Rouses was right there (we all thought it was going to be a movie theater). Played with my first set of boobs in the Eckerds stockroom and got my first stink finger at the Lafayette woods park. Good times back then, waaaaaayyyyy less racial tension. I spent many days at my black friends houses and vice versa. Had many Vietnamese friends and my best friend was an Italian from West Virginia.

To compare Houma with Thibodaux, they both have several good local restaurants, but Houma has far more chains.
But Houma has Cristiano’s which is the GOAT.

It's good but let's not get crazy here.

Was that the place on prospect?
When we first moved back from San Francisco we were staying in a rent house in Oakshire while building our house on the Terrebonne side of Bayou Blue.
Me and this dumbass kid i knew thought it would be a good idea to take the trails at the back of idelwild that connected to Bayou Gardens Dr, and ride our bikes to some pizza place on Prospect. Going up the prospect bridge on a bike was hard, and going down was the scariest thing i have ever experienced.
ETA. Tasty Pizza was the place.

Obviously my comment was hyperbole, but it is a very good restaurant even compared to places in New Orleans.

I remember when the Mr Gattis opened on Prospect St. And shopping at TG&Y. My dad’s office was on Grand Calliou. Prime place to catch the parades when they started at the airbase and ended on the west side, I guess they ended at Gaylord’s/Plaza movie theater back then. You could catch the parades on Grand Calliou, go to the hospital and catch it there, and then take more back streets to the mall.
Any of y’all Houma kids remember the nasty pools at Legion back by Harc?

I've said a few times we need a Houma-OT meet up. Houma threads always bring out a good bit of posters from the area

It went from the Airbase to Lafayette Street back then.

Been too long I guess. I thought it always ended past the mall. Shits all starting to run together. Sounds like we probably crossed paths at some point.
