**Update

The job at Schreiver didn’t pan out but I just found out that my next assignment will be Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs anyways.

Won’t be there until next fall, but have been looking on Zillow just to get an idea of the market and where I want to buy.

Been looking in the Briargate area because my wife says that’s in District 20. She’s going to try to work in that school district.

I’ve heard to stay above Constitution and East of Power. Was that solid advice?

Again, thanks for any information.

Bonus points for anyone who can tell me about the 561st NOS. (Other then it sucks and they always frick up your NIPR.
——————————————————
I’m being recruited to leave Germany and take a gig at Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs. I’m married with 3 kids (9, 5, and 2).
My wife is an SLP and prefers to work in the school system but we did see that she’ll be taking a pay cut.

That said.....

-where should we look to buy?
-what’s the market like to rent?
-what parts should we stay away from?
-do you recommend any schools or districts?
-lagniappe if you can’t tell me anything about the base.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that but it's really amazing what they can do with Occupational Therapy these days.

She can probably get a normal job after therapy.

well, in the general area there's Ft Carson, the Air Force Academy, and Peterson AFB so it's got a pretty heavy military concentration...

Can't answer any of your questions, but my sister moved there a year and a half ago and loves it. They've been getting a lot of snow lately, which is not very common this time of year. I visited them last year and it was really nice. I'd move there in a heartbeat.

It’s going to be a bit expensive but if you can I would look into Castle Rock to the north. The south side of town is typically rough. Fountain is a good area, too.

CSprings is a great town, not too big but not too small.

Can't help with details, but I would strongly consider moving there myself if an opportunity were to arise.

I'd live there. I went there once for work awhile back. If you're into the outdoors it looks like theres a shitload to do.

Be prepared for hail and wind damage to your car and home. Hail storms and wind storms are no joke there. My sister and BIL have been there for five years now and have issues with that.

Isn't Castle Rock almost an hour away?

My wife had LASIK surgery there. Went pretty well. I stayed at the Olympic Training Center there twice in college. Some great memories.

That douche, Joe Kenda has retired, I think, so don't look for him.

Don't do it. But if you do, you want to live close to the AF Academy/Briargate. Stay away from anything close to Ft. Carson... it's a shite hole. For the most part, its relatively nice everywhere except for most of the places outside of Carson.

Rent, you're looking at 1,400-2,000 a month. Can't help with school districts, however I have heard the north part of the springs is pretty good.

My In-laws lived in CSprings for a few years when we were in college and we lived with them for a summer. I absolutely loved it out there. So much to offer in the outdoors, so close to Denver, pretty nice city with low crime. They lived across I25 from the north gate of the Air Force Academy in Gleneagle. Pretty sure there is a Bass Pro Shops development right there now.

North area is nice. You don't have to go to Castle Rock. That's about halfway to Denver.

Ft Carson is towards the south. My former MIL lives in Cheyenne Mountain subdivision. It is located not far from Ft. Carson.

I would. I mean, there are some nice areas close to Carson, but lots of trash. The really nice areas close to Carson, such as the Broadmoor area, is a little too rich for Military blood.

Personally, i'd live in the northern part of the Springs but I am sure a lot has changed since I lived there.

You could visit Steven Raichlen's Barbeque University in Colorado Springs, so there's that.
