Sounds like Chalmette is a no go. I can work in other places, but Chalmette pays better. Now I know why.

Normally I would see people posting that you are crazy for coming to the OT for advice on real life changing decisions.........but in this case all the posts seem to be spot on.

OP, it is not all that bad as everyone puts it. Heck, if you love the outdoors, you will love it down there. 
I say 100% better living down there then living in New Orleans. As they say, Da parish is what is still somewhat small town thinking. People down there will give you the time of the day, not like up the road.

Back in the day, people used to make fun of Chalmette, but it was one of the safest places to live in the metro area- Southshore and there was a lot of hidden money down there that lived off of Palmisano or down in Braithwaite. But since Katrina, there have been demographic changes hat have led to the area not being as desireable....although Arabi is something of a trendy area.
If the offer is good, see what the employer thinks of you living in Slidell which is about 25-30 minutes away
One of the few reasons to go there is for Rocky and Carlo's. Food is really bad for you but good to eat

Bywater is great and 15 mins from chalmette.
Arabi is more affordable and has an amazing Philippino enclave with great parties.
