Robert Tilton in Dallas was the greatest -
Arghhhh we went to his church, off 35 here in Dallas, sometimes when I was a kid. My mom is a sucker for these types. Even benny hinn. We have to constantly keep tabs on her money to make sure she isnt doing anything stupid. She's the good hearted sweet, kind, but naive type that these guys take advantage of. The type that went to mass every morning as a kid (she converted eventually after she married my dad).
As a kid my dad would get up, and walk out of sermons where the pastor would say shite like "your money will dry up...yadda yadda yadda" if you dont tithe.
I've attended Prestonwood Baptist (now up in Plano) since I was a kid. Dad finally found it, and Pastor Jack Graham I will say influenced my life only second to my father. it's like he put our faith in Dr Grahams hands to guide. He does have a "mega-church". He is on tv, but I wouldnt say he is a televangelist like these others. Sadly he is starting to faze out for a lesser role. Back in the day he was the type that made you really think, and sweat. Was afraid to be upfront about sin of the day. In an entertaining way. Rarely spoke about tithing, and basic "sunday school" stuff. So hard to find that today. Give me the tools to handle todays issues in the way God wants us too without fear.
Anyway..biggest thing they have that I support is their pregnancy center(started back in 90s) that helps women who got pregnant, and gives them an alternative to an abortion.
Funny story on Robert Tilton....i was in a store in the Galleria once yrs yrs ago, and I was looking at something in the window from inside the store. I look up, and BAM there was tiltons big arse head looking thru the window across from me. Ha. Freaked me out. Dude never aged. Ha
No church is perfect as the devil hides in the good, but it's important to stop it once found. be upfront about it. Forgive. Move on with diligence. .

He is using the church for his personal platform....once he hit it big he didnt need the salary.....it was the church that propped him up to make it big.
Jimmy Swaggart was different backing the day....fire and brimstone. Today it is all feel good stuff which is always predicated on giving to the church to feel that way. Tilton is so bad it is cartoonish, him and the guy that had the river running down the church.

Why do more Christians not condemn the behavior of hookers like Joel Osteen and Benny Hinn?
They want something to believe in. You should see Houston traffic for one of his sermons. It's crazy.
Looks like that interviewer is even thinking "man, this guy is full of crap"

Some people are so lost in the world that they cling on to these people as their only source of hope and inspiration. It is pretty sad, really.
It is a placebo, but if it makes them feel better what difference does it make, its less harmful than drugs or alcohol, and cheaper than therapy.

I did some work for this older gentleman several years ago. He told me that he never was one for going to church, but that he watched Joel Osteen on the TV and sent money to him. I just shook my head.
I think the biggest supporters Osteen has, outside of his immediate local congregation, are those that don't belong to or attend any church whatsoever.

"Planting a seed" is above and beyond normal tithing.

honestly, life really sucks sometimes. stress and fear get in the way of clear thinking, couple that with most of us being brainwashed into religion at a young age, we'll fall for just about anything that makes us feel better about ourselves.

His actions and remarks in this thread, especially toward Pecker, are nothing short of reprehensible and completely unruly.

I can tell you that places like Healing Place and Lakewood aren't filling those buildings to the rafters with Democrats. That's what's so funny about those mega churches.
eta: I like to post Rust Cohle's quote on religion in these threads:
If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward then, brother, that person is a piece of shite. And I’d like to get as many of them out in the open as possible. You gotta get together and tell yourself stories that violate every law of the universe just to get through the goddamn day? What’s that say about your reality?

But you'd think I'm a different kind of dumb as well as a Westminster Confession Presbyterian.

Did you know at the time of his death, Billy Graham had a net worth of $25 million? I like the guy but I think it comes down to people choosing who they are going to like or dislike. A lot on here don't like religion in the first place so this is easy fuel for them.

People want to see what makes them feel good. These televangelists make their people feel good. So those people do what they say and ignore anything that contradicts with their perceived reality
It’s like the liberals with these racial attacks. They want them to be true so bad that they suspend all logical reasoning in their analysis. It falls in line with what I want to be true therefore it’s true. Facts and evidence be damned.

Osteen has built his fortune on the ignorant people of this world. Yeah he’s a POS, yet the people that give him money are to blame.

Paying me was irrelevant. I help many people without compensation. Her budget worked without tithing. We worked on her budget for 3 years. She was depleting her accounts (that i did not hold) and then lied to me about it.
I guess I actually fired her for not taking advice and lying.
