He’s definitely addicted. Xanax, hydrocodone, OxyContin, adderall, literally any pill he can get his hands on. Text message logs between him and his dealers, he stole money from my wife, and he’s failed every drug test we’ve given him in the last two weeks. So yes, he’s addicted

shite is the devil. Got a few friends that died from it. Not to scare you but its the truth. That was before all the fake pressed stuff hit the market

xanax withdraws are absolute hell from the outside looking in.

He acknowledges that he has a problem, but insists that he can stop on his own. He hasn’t made any real effort to do so though

Until he’s ready to stop it’s pretty useless.

I know that true for adults, but I thought teens have a better chance at recovery when they are forced into treatment.

Then again, I’m way out of my depth here.

I wish the best of luck to you.

A close relative had problems as well and once she made the decision to get better it turned around for us all. She’s coming up on 13 years sober.

I hope you have the same luck.

This sounds harsh… but if he gets picked up by the police for it… let him sit in the Parish a couple months .. it’s probably hard but you got to be a a-hole to a drug addict… not to him as a person but to the habit …

As a recovering addict, yes this is true for the most part. The problem is he is a 16 year old kid and the dad fears for his safety. Sometimes it is best to put them in treatment so they will be locked away from the drugs. Hopefully, in time he will come to "want it". Just keep him alive until then.....

There are certainly better options out there than having a criminal record to teach someone a lesson.

1. He can't text if he doesn't have a phone. Who's paying the phone bill?
2. A 15 year old Altima probably won't make the drive to Montana.
3. You have the dealer's phone number. Turn his arse in to the cops.

At his age you will need to give him an ultimatum that he can't refuse if he doesn't want to go on his own.

2. There are very few adolescent programs that we've been able to find.

There are some out there. What exactly are you looking for? Best/closest to you/non-cost prohibitive?

It's been a while but Hazelden was the best for that age demo. Looks like they are part of Betty Ford now but you would be sending him North.

1. Does anyone know the process for getting him involuntarily committed?

Something has to happen for you to get a 72 hour hold on him.

2. Does anyone have a recommendation for treatment facilities for teens? We have BCBS insurance.

You should get your insurance involved sooner than later to see how much or if they will even pay for it.

You should probably reach out to local rehab facilities to see if they can give you recommendations.

Good luck to both of you.

How is that drama? Asking others who make have similar experiences and knowledge is a great idea. That’s how you learn about things.

I don’t really care what kind of pills he’s “addicted” to but he’s 16.

Why don’t you be a better parent

If he doesn’t follow your rules, call the sheriff and haul his arse away to a rehabilitation facility

That's tough but at the least he knows this. What worked for my SIL was getting out of the environment she was in (We forced that issue, gave her an ultimatum) and basically had her stay at an Airbnb next to our place.) There we just kept her busy, she got a job and did rehab/consoling over Zoom at our house for 6 months.

I think it just gave her a fresh start and built some confidence in herself that she didn't need the drugs and that she wasn't worthless.

YCP in Carville is an option but it won't be as good as voluntary rehab.

If he doesn't want to go, a treatment program is most likely not going to work.

Unfortunately in my experience, something real bad is going to have to happen before the light goes on in his head.

You need to be strong and not enable him.

This is one of the stupidest comments I’ve ever read on here. Excuse someone for being concerned about his child and trying to get him help.

The dealer used a burner phone, but I do have the number. I’ve turned it over to the cops and they can’t track it. He’s also lost his phone
