Unless the guy was impaired or going 80, charging him with negligent homicide is a tradgety in itself.

I travel 73 home every day, but get off @ 427 and take Airline on into Gonzales. 73 is a dangerous MF'er. I figure my odds are just a tad better on Airline.

No lights on the bike, no safety helmet, dark clothes! Safety is just as much the parents' responsibility as it is the 14 year old's.

Years ago my grandson wanted a rail to use with his skateboard. My husband got him one for Christmas and included a safety helmet. Grandson refused to use the helmet to the point where the rail was thrown in the trash.

Troopers have also determined that Ashford was traveling in excess of the posted 45 mph speed limit. Ashford was charged with Speeding and Negligent Homicide. He has been booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

I know a kid died and some may wants justice. But this is BS. No way the troopers can tell that within two hours if they did not witness.

With all due respect to the situation, this is absurd.

This is one awful tragedy for everyone involved.

There is NO safe way to travel by bike nor foot ANYWHERE in Pville. 42, 73, 929, 933, 931, 44, Sevario. NONE of those major highways have even a 2 foot shoulder.

I am worried every night I'm out there and 'blinded' by oncoming headlights. There's no way to see anyone walking or riding on side of the road in those few seconds. This happens several times a night on any given 3 hour shift.

I worry also for my own reasons b/c The driver is going to be charged with negligent homicide if going 55 in a 45(absolutely acceptable to go 10 over on all these roads I mentioned). And extremely rare that a pedestrian or cyclist(usually a grown man on a bmx bike smoking a cigarette riding to store for more) is taking all the safety precautions you mentioned.

I think police can do a pretty quick calculation of speed based on skid marks. It may not be exact but it will be close. Possible other witnesses were present too.

Maybe Ashford told LSP he was going 55 or 60 (or whatever).
Can LSP retrieve info off of a vehicle's computer without a warrant in a fatality accident?

I can damned near guarantee you that APSO will NEVER ticket a driver for going 10 over speed limit on every major road crossing all over pville.

So it's acceptable UNTIL you hit someone being equally unsafe in their mode of travel.

Your spelling is also a tragedy.

But yeah, pretty absurd to charge him with negligent homicide. Will hopefully be dropped.

Yea I guess let's wait and see how fast he was going. I know that some people out there drive like complete idiots on those roads. Also every shift I can guarantee you I'll get passed by some jackleg 20 something yr old in a truck going 70+mph in a 45 mph zone.

Who decided that its acceptable? So its only wrong if you get caught?

No sir. I'm telling you flatly with certainty(over 4 years slanging pizza in the entire city of Pville) that you will NOT be ticketed for 10 over on those thoroughfares. This is not a matter of 'getting caught'. It's a good thing that APSO recognizes careless operation and doesn't nitpick on these rural roads. BUT to charge a driver with homicide for it is fricked up contradiction.
Again, Not talking about 70 mph in 45.

Prayers for the family of this young boy. A 14 year old is not an adult, and any error in judgement is one that all or most of us made in one way or another at his age. I have a 14 year old son (he may have known this boy) and he does things that 14 year old boys do. My heart goes out to his family.

As for the driver, it is important to always expect the unexpected and drive the speed limit on the highway exactly for reasons like this. We drive the speed limit because there is a possibility others are behaving negligently or recklessly and we are our brother's keeper. But we have ALL been that guy in that truck one way or another too. One curve away from disaster. Prayers to him as well.

not trying to be insensitive...but if the driver cannot see the kid, how is this his fault? If someone dies you automatically go to jail? bullshite.
