Dude driving was black. I agree that negligent homicide is way out of line. So many lives ruined.

Let's hope the jurors are aware of jury nullification and let the dude walk. He does not deserve jail time for this terrible accident.

The guys in the lifted truck with oversized wheel are far more likely to drive like a complete jackass. Let's not forget that the kid was driving at night, dressed in dark clothing on a two lane highway where there is a speed limit of 45. With that being said, it was terrible to drive past the scene today. Yellow markings where the body was. Not a body outline, but lines. Must me a terrible reminder for the family

I was just venting about a problem I see. I live in Ascension, a couple miles from this scene, and it's sad on many levels. I see people(kids and adults) walking and riding so close to these shoulder less roads. I got chills about three nights ago because I drove up on a few kids walking the white line, and didn't see them until the very last moment. With it becoming dark so early at this time of year, this is prime time for these things.

I saw the marks left by the investigation yesterday... So chilling

I wasn't even talking about the accident. I didn't even know he was driving a jacked up truck, his race, or if he was driving like a jackass.

I can attest that it is damn near impossible to see someone in time on that road, in the dark. If he wasn't flying down the road, I hope he walks free.

There is so much traffic in that area, by the time anybody hits a road with any type of flow, you're gonna go the speed of traffic. And the flow/speed on that stretch is never 45, even though the speed limit is posted as such.

I feel for the kid's family, but man this is such a terrible stretch to be riding a bike at that time of day specifically. Any time really. There have been so many times that I have almost hit a kid on a bike or walking on either 621, 73, Roddy Road, Black Bayou, etc. And they are always wearing all black. What ever happened to schools talking about bike safety and wearing light colored clothing? It's bad enough that the parish is cheap and refuses to put up lights for the roads. So it's dark, and then you have the new cars with the blinding headlights now.

I tell you who I'm really shocked hasn't been killed yet is Droop and his sister. Anybody from Ascension knows who that is.

I disagree. The standard is not ordinary negligence, but criminal negligence, which exists when "there is such disregard of the interest of others that the offender's conduct amounts to a gross deviation below the standard of care expected to be maintained by a reasonably careful man under like circumstances." Not an easy burden to meet for prosecution.

There must be some evidence that the dude was hauling arse to get charged so quickly. That or the cops are just A holes.

Terrible tragedy. Feel bad for the family. Christmas will never be the same for them.

No, Christmas will never be the same and neither will their life. The moment you get news that your child has died, much of your life ends as well. I wouldn't wish it on the devil him/herself.

People are starting to put flowers up there no. There is even a small tin box with something in it. So sad to see.

Very tragic accident. But this is the right precedent to set(not that we use them in La. lol). Planners need to fricking expand roads and build some shoulders on the ones they have out there designated for pedestrian and bike traffic. But all that gets done is build new neighborhoods.

That shitshow recent Planning Director firing for standing up to developers is a scary sign of direction AP is heading.
