Backbones are generally not replaceable by millions of people who would kill to get into this country to sort packages in an American warehouse with benefits. Unions are a cartel.

Anecdotally, a lot of those workers are there part time just because of the benefits. Many of them have full time jobs like I referenced above & use UPS part time. Why? Because it lowers their net expenses & lets them pay for things like a mortgage.

Well that seems to totally go against the fact that they are striking right now for higher wages.

My initial point was that benefits are great but they don't pay a mortgage or a car note. You can give someone the greatest Healthcare in the world but if they can't afford to buy shite they are gonna want actual money. Especially young people that go to the doctor once a year or less.

Almost literally at this point. Unions heavily vote Dem.

I was so amused when Biden cancelled the Keystone XL after their union voted for him. Stupid is,stupid does.

Because it isn't the care, it's the cost of the care. If that cost is negligible, they can spend elsewhere

I know in my 20s I went to the doctor fewer than 10 times, I'd have much rather had a bigger paycheck than great healthcare that I never used.

Also, the cost of everything has gone up 20%+ the past few years, have their wages increased to keep up with inflation?

I don't know, but I know I'd rather UPS pay than a month long strike that the rest of us have to deal with. The workers will just put that money right back into the economy anyway.

Union strikes are a product of a functioning labor marketplace.

bullshite. a functioning labor market left alone will set the participation rate and wages. you’re an economic illiterate if you actually believe what you just said. thank god for TR, or else we wouldn’t have an example of how to regulate capitalism

Not where I’m sitting.

Lazy asshats are everywhere. Not just in a union workplace.

And they will if we stop immigration. And our economy will become sclerotic like Europe’s.

For those who have no personal capital.

The union here went on strike, fricked everyone over then settled for less than was originally offered. Thats what happens when dumb people vote.

Because it's part time. It's a low intellect level job. Just like every other one of those jobs. They don't like it, they can go somewhere else. Do you know the retention rate of those types? I recall about half would walk away within three days.

So instead of compensating the workers (cause it's not like UPS hasn't brought in record profits) for their hard work, these multi-millionaires at the top should keep it all for themselves and shite all over these hard workers while depending on a revolving door model for employees?

UPS once used to pay its part time employees well. The wage back in 1982 was $8hr which translates to over $25hr today. The starting wage today is $15.50. Before 1982, drivers and part timers used to make the same pay at $12-$13hr. That's over $37hr today. UPS is s much larger and profitable company today.
