Yea well I use the back page. And after a series of knuckleheads wouldn't turn the page over I put a bolded OVER at the bottom of the 2nd to last page.
One guy still didn't turn it over: "I thought that meant the test was over."

I had a professor that came to class ONE time all semester. He walked in, smashed his coffee mug (full of coffee) against the wall and walked out. He gave me a C. I went to the dean and had it changed to an A. USL was such a joke.

That was my problem this semester. Graduate this summer, but already have job offers. I just don't give a frick anymore.

I disagree with the "you earned a C" crowd/"got to have an 80" crowd before it's a B.
The dude made neither a 79 or an 80. He made a 79.7. Since grades are a function of/correspond with "whole" numbers, at the point of the OP earning a 79.7, the prof had the choice of either throwing .7 earned points down the toilet, or awarding the student .3 unearned points. I believe that awarding the OP .3 unearned points is more representative of what the OP earned. Modern math and science believe the same thing - that's why each would ask that you "round up" if you HAD to get to a whole number.

It doesn't hurt to ask, but I hope you don't expect any sympathy from anyone if it doesn't go your way.
The professor gave you an opportunity to get 20% of the material wrong and still be awarded a B. That's more than fair already IMO.

For real.
Hell, I had several courses where I ended up with a way better grade than I anticipated, and I didn't even ask for it. I actually sent a professor an email telling him I love him because my final grade was a B when I made mediocre grades on tests all semester. I always showed to class, though.
One course, I missed class one day without realizing we had an exam (thought it was a different day). I missed an entire exam in a course that only had 4 tests for the semester. If I made A's on the next two exams, I'd still make a horrible grade. But I tried anyway, and ended up getting two A's. After finals, the professor emailed saying he doesn't have a grade recorded for Exam 2 and wasn't sure if he misplaced it. I was 100% honest and said I missed class on the day of Exam 2, and that wonderful man said, "No biggie. I'll drop that exam and just take the average of your other 3 exams".
I went from near failing to making a high B in the course.

Right.
And if you want to think about it on a pure points system, that .3 points could be a lot!
Let's say the class had a total of 1000 points across the board, that .3 is actually 30 points.
30 points is probably 2 quizzes (15 pts each) that he didn't come to class to take.
Therefore...he shouldn't get that 0.3 bump.

A 79.7 is a B. Only an a-hole would not round that up to a B.
In what other facet of the world are you awarded the "prize" even if you fall short?
"I had 5 of the 6 lottery numbers, and my last one was only off by 1...can you round it up?"
"But Mr. Ref, we almost got it to the goal line. Can you round it up?"
"I know that I could only pay $999.95 of my $1000 bill. Can you just round it up?"
People that expect professors to round up from a grade you earned to a grade you didn't are the assholes.

How should I go about emailing her?
Her summer out of office reply is already on. She will laugh at you for failing to achieve a B and will post about you on social media where all of her fellow professor friends will mock you and your stupidity.

I ended the semester with a 79.70 C in my class and my teacher refuses to round my grade up to 0.30 points. How should I go about emailing her? Getting a B is critical for my TOPs scholarship.
Were you a good student in the class? Did you not only show up, but also participate and do the assignments?
If so, talk to her N PERSON and I'm sure she'll throw you a bone.

Final grades are due in 15 minutes!!!!

Who ever said that grades were whole numbers? The thresholds are defined as whole numbers, but that's just the threshold. As in an 80 is a "B". It doesn't say you can't get a 79.9. It just says that once that grade reaches 80, it turns from a "C" to a "B". You've got to draw a line somewhere and this teacher drew it at a decimal place. That's completely fair. Might not be kind or popular with the class, but it's fair.
If a teacher sets a bar to achieve a grade, you are asking them to bend their standards to fit your grade so that you get a "B". That's pretty selfish on the individual's part. Hell, a teacher doesn't have to curve if they don't feel it's worthy. The goal of a class is to learn the information. Not to distribute the grades so that a certain percentage make and A,B,C, etc.. If you don't meet the required levels, there's no reason a teacher can't just give the actual earned grade.

Often dreaded that moment for that one class where the grades did not come in yet.
