So the teacher didn't think she looked like a terrorist, but gave her an award saying she is most likely going to be a terrorist. That makes sense
Like others have said, it was a joke. She could be the top student in her class. These teachers could have been showering her with complements all the time. This was just a one off thing.
It's in poor taste because of recent events. But I doubt these teachers have been going around calling her a terrorist because of what she looks like.
Although, some Muslims and Latinos do look a like. I worked with a guy from Afghanistan, he said people think he's Mexican all the time.

You realize there are other characteristics of "terrorists" besides looks, right? She was apparently a very good student with no disciplinary issues at school. I imagine, sine they were joke awards, they weren't handing them out based on real "merit."
And she is Hispanic. Why do you keep saying she looks like a terrorist or that someone who works and lives around Hispanics daily would think that?

Maybe the teacher was just tired from working all of those 12 hour days

No. This sort of thing was never ok. You could not go back to the 50's and start throwing around accusations of people being a communist in jest and not have people take it a certain way. This is something that kids do to each other because they are too stupid to understand consequences. It is not something adults with a functioning brain do. Words have meaning. I think that you are legit a little retarded.

You read that article?

None of that fricking matters. An adult doesn't tear down a child like that, especially an adult in an authority position. How fricked up are you?

When you consider that it was an award from a teacher to a 13yo student in front of what sounds like the entire class, yes it's cringeworthy.
Context is everything. If it was part of a group of joke awards it is definitely neither cringe, or news, worthy.
Teaching students to be on the constant lookout for things to be offended about is cringeworthy.

She could be a Muslim, she could wear a burka, she could simply be a loner that the teacher thinks could be a terrorist. Saying someone looks like a terrorist and saying someone looks middle eastern aren't always the same thing.
Also it doesn't appear that she has much love for her teacher

believe that is the 7th grader that got the award that said that. She/He, idk with a name like that, is a good sport and will most likely be a contributing part of society.
The student says she wants the teacher fired in the article.

I'm responding to direct posts from other posters, you fricking moron.
Posted on 5/26/17 at 9:27 am to GRTiger
Also none of this is fricking relevant. A student was bullied by a teacher. The student obviously was embarrassed by this in front of her whole class. The teacher should be fired.
Don't we have enough examples of bullying causing mass shootings? People need to think before they act

Rememeber when things were funny and the 24hr news didn't sensationalize everything?
Posted on 5/26/17 at 9:29 am to Breesus
I remember when teachers weren't complete morons.

Or, like most Hispanics in that area, she is Catholic or Christian. The loner thing is possible and would only add to the insensitivity of award. Agree there.

yeah
the lack of awareness is the most glaring issues
but I"m sure everyone here would just laugh if their 13 year old daughter got a "Most Likely to Murder Innocent Children" Award
Hilarious stuff.

Total bullshite. Teaching students basic decency and manners is cringe worthy to you. And I bet you think that is American values.

I agree. I'm so glad we have mature teachers working with kids. What a moronic decision by the teacher.
