The Baton Rouge North Economic Development District, a body created last year to spur investment in the northern part of the parish, is set to begin receiving its dedicated funding next month.
The money will finally begin flowing to the district in October after the 2% hotel occupancy tax was inadvertently delayed by the Metro Council in April. The district’s board has not yet hired a permanent executive director, but will have one in the next three months, chair Ron Smith says. Until then, the board will consider hiring two contract workers—current interim director Rinaldi Jacobs and Woodrow Muhammad—to handle the director’s duties before selecting one.
The district will also soon begin developing a strategic plan that will lay out the group’s long- and short-term vision for north Baton Rouge, a historically underserved area leaders have sought to reinvigorate through economic development.
This ought to be ripe for corruption and abuse.
Realistically, there's no way to revitalize an area that large in a city this size all at once. They have to focus on small areas first with targeted tax incentives and infrastructure investments, then move out slowly to other areas.

" A strategic plan". Will it STRATEGICally make recommendations on family PLANning? Like maybe quit popping out kids being raised by Grandma and Auntie .

They already have the infrastructure in place just north of Choctaw for a large, industrialplex type development. Would be better than industrialplex traffic wise as this was laid out with an actual planned grid and not just slapped in a field without regard to access.

I can't wait until NBR is totally gentrified. So much real estate being wasted right now.

The area needs jobs. Cortana should be redeveloped into a flex space area like Industriaplex was with distribution and light industrial and commercial offices.

This grid is just north of Cortana.
It was supposed to be the Industrialplex, but then good old boy politics took that south.
Drive through that section and it's nice the way it's laid out.

There is investments in the area north of Cortana (Tom Drive, Oak Villa, etc. The plots are larger and not as easy to sell, but they are being developed. Orion's offices are out there. Several DCs are there.
I just think Cortana's most likely use is smaller scale flex space similar to Industrialplex now with retail flanking the perimeter that fronts Florida and Airline. There is demand for that in Baton Rouge and New Orleans right now.
I also think they'd have a greater chance of success if they didn't focus on redevelopment of north Baton Rouge broadly and targeted one small area at a time.

Cortana was a retail zone when Industrialplex was laid out. It's not some conspiracy against you.
Wooddale was originally set up like that and still is.

This is essentially North Baton Rouge splitting off and creating their own tax district. How is that not racist?
South Baton Rouge should do the same and call it St. George.
