We have some brown nosers as well. Always whining to the bosses about insignificant shite.

If one of my people ever tattle to me I usually just make a mental note that the tattle tale is not to be trusted.
Doubt I ever act on some trivial shite that I didn't notice.
If someone constantly leaves early then it will show, and if it doesn't then props to them.
Actually stopped one guys promotion because I wasn't on board with how he was setting himself apart being the snitch.

I hate the guy or gal that thinks that CCing all the bosses on an email will get them results any faster.
had one of these this am..Boss response was " I see you already emailed GK, so just wait for his official answer"
Always enjoy it when the boss puts a stop to that crap in such a way that calls them out.

They are every where. I used to work in an office full of women, it was daily drama with them tattling on each other trying to "One Up".

Doesn't matter what the job is there will always be someone has to snitch on other employees.

So watching people come in and out of the lobby all day is efficient? People take breaks at different hours, and lunch at different times. In order for this guy to monitor all that, it's basically all he is doing.
I actually had a former boss who did that. I’m thinking, you’re one step down from the CFO and you’re concerned about a low to mid level staffer not even in your dept is arriving for the day? I think it stemmed from her boss who showed up at 7 and worked until at least 6 each night. They even sent out a company wide email about arrival times and that the owners were looking at when people swiped their key card to get in the building each day. Of course they weren’t doing that. If your work was done they didn’t care. If your work wasn’t done then that could be ammo to get rid of you
I was coming from CPA world where your only time that mattered was billable hours each week. And people would email at all hours to somehow prove they were working hard. I never responded to those until the next day.
It doesn’t surprise me that they shut the door a few years ago with people like that in management.

Depends on what you're tattling about.
While I agree it is ridiculous to tattle to the boss anytime someone clocks out 5 minutes early, I think there are some instances that merit "tattling". If there's a co-worker who is slacking, or letting his quality of work get to an unacceptable point, then the boss needs to know -- it's a matter of creating a burden on everyone else who has to pick up their slack. Sometimes the boss isn't in a position to notice individual, day-to-day work performances; he may not notice there's an issue unless it's reported to him.
All that being said, I'd try to talk to the co-worker myself about any issue before going straight to the boss. I'm all for being friends with everyone I work with, but not if it means I constantly have to re-do your shitty work on top of my normal workload.

Will be your boss one day. But keep taking long lunches and keep coming in late. I'm sure the higher ups love that more than his tattling
If I'm paying you salary, I'm paying you to do a job, not do hourly work. I don't give a shite how efficient anyone is as long as they get the job done.

I had a fellow mortgage cubical occupant tell my sales manager that I cursed too much. At the same place, there was a "team leader" who was not my direct superior that would tattle on me when I was more than 5 minutes over my lunch hour.

Don't mind a tattle tale here and there. I used to work with a guy that would leave at about 3:00 everyday and the director had no idea because the employee would say he was out working. Glad the director found out the truth, and it wasn't from me.
The rest of us were working til 5:00-5:30. Not fair he would leave early with no repercussions.

Anyone dealt with a tattle tale in the work place? I had a good laugh over lunch with a person I used to work with at a former company. This person still works there and spilled some funny stuff about how this one particular brown nosing type dude who thinks he's climbing the ladder was emailing the top person everyday a list of people who left early, took long breaks, etc... Mind you this is a professional service business where nearly every employee is making six figures plus not a clock punching operation with hourly workers.

Did the brown noser look like this?

I've been parking in the visitors area of the lot in the morning because it's on the west side of the building and is in the shade. (I leave for lunch so I find a new spot for the afternoon.) It's never close to full so it effects no one that I'm there. Someone tattled on me so now it's blocked off.

I know someone that used to get in trouble daily. He was the VP of a very big company. HR implemented this call-in anonymous complaint thing, and he went from almost no complaints to daily ones. He'd even get in trouble for cursing during meetings. He also had a guy complain that he wouldn't give him a raise. The guy only showed up to work half of the time, but thought he deserved a raise. Didn't get it, and called HR
