Tangipahoa Parish NAACP Calls for School Official Resignations

Remember our esteemed Amite Valedictorian of the Class of 2016 who decided to stand up to the unjust "shave for graduation" rule? Well,
WWLTV Article
I don't think I'll ever understand where this sense of personal exception to the rules comes from in today's society. I was white (well, I still am), definitely not the Valedictorian (respectable top 28% as to not attract too much attention), and I was told that I had to shave or risk not being able to participate in my HS graduation ceremony. Guess what, I shaved! As they say, pick your battles...
On the lighter side (no pun intended),

The Tangipahoa Parish NAACP said Jones' discrimination is an example of the many issues that have been fought in the parish's desegregation lawsuit for years. Because of that, they are calling for the resignation of the superintendent and three board members.

During graduation practice, the school principal informed the male students, including Jones, who were not clean shaven, that they had three options: Shave before the ceremony, come to graduation and shave at the site with shaving cream and razors provided, or don't shave and they wouldn't be able to participate,

Yes, I do realize that he went all year with the beard and the policy was never enforced. However, they made themselves perfectly clear prior to graduation that he wouldn't be able to walk if he didn't shave and he called their bluff. It was a good life lesson for him I hope.

i was thinking frick that dude. He knew the rules and still decided to break them.
But, new news is out some white students were allowed to walk.
If this is true then they should all be fired and the ceremony held again to let ole baw walk.

So a blanket, color blind rule about shaving is discriminatory, huh? Yep, that sounds like the NAACP alright.

Allowed to walk with facial hair? Just trying to clarify. If so then I agree with you.

If they had beard then that is shitty, but I am probably guessing it is just an excuse because this individual couldn't walk.

yes. There were photos shown last night on the news that showed a white student with a goatee exactly like his that was allowed to walk

Well, if that's the case then these folks have a legit complaint.

At a previous years graduation... Not 2016.
It's in the fine print.

I think they should have shaved and this shouldn't be an issue but...I don't get why they chose to enforce the policy after the year was over.

The local NAACP gal was on 107 this morning and said she has proof (guessing photos and/or videos) of male students both black and white walking in the ceremony with facial hair.
If true, this completely and utterly fricks any defense the school board might try to use.
Whether true or not, it will all come out over the next couple of weeks.

At a previous year. At a different school. And one of the kids with a beard had a doctors note regarding a medical condition where he wasn't supposed to shave because of skin issues. But don't let that stop the NAACP from stirring it up.
