I don’t want to move there, but if my work circumstances change, I will be inclined to move. I’m looking to be 1.5h or less from the airport and not trying to move to a crime-ridden area (yeah, I know).

I want to be in an area that is walkable, safe, and near bars/restaurants.

Any suggestions?

I live in burbs outside Atlanta in Gwinnett County. Other than the libs moving in and turning it blue, it's a good place to live. Traffic sucks, but I don't really have to go into the city all that often. Airport is about 45 minutes from my house or about $50 in an uber.

Atlanta never appealed to me either but if you’re in Nola then it’s still an upgrade.

Would it really be an improvement?

1.5 hours from the airport presents a lot of options, lol, like… Tennessee.

What does it mean to be near bars and restaurants? You want to walk? Get ready to plop down $750k for a townhome.

We live in rural north Fulton, and it’s nice here but certainly on verge of changing. We can’t walk to bars, but there are several great areas to hang out… Avalon, Halycon, downtown Alpharetta, etc. South Forsyth growing fast but not as much “to do” yet. Many folks moving as far north as Dawsonville to avoid the sprawl.

frick ITP, I would never do it.
East is Athens.
Don’t do west
If you do south, go waaay south to Peachtree City etc.

You’ll really need to explore.

An hour and a half from the airport? Peachtree City, or thereabouts. Drop down about 20-25 miles below I-285 (or further) and you should be alright.

My retired brother lives close to downtown and the belt line. Nice walking areas but get your check book out. Gentrified and expensive.

I lived in Carrollton, GA for about 5 years right after college but was in the city often. I enjoyed my time there, but the traffic is tough in the city. If the airport is your main focus I would suggest living on the west side outside of the perimeter. Its a short commute to the airport with several smaller nice communities. Just my $.02

If your buddies don't get over their Kemp butthurt, this gal is going to be your dictator.

More like super model, picture of modern health, and star fleet commander. Check that privilege.

I lived in Canton, about 25 miles north of Atlanta, for 6 years. In hindsight I should have gotten a condo in the city instead of getting a house in the burbs.

-But- I wouldn’t live in the city now. Sandy Springs or Alpharetta maybe.

Hate the Falcons. Hate the Braves. Hate the Hawks. Hate UGA. Guess I could become a Tech fan.

Only place that sounds less appealing to me from a sports perspective is Dallas.

Atlanta is amazing

Granted I lived there 20 years ago.... but my friend lives there and I visit frequently

You can see a Braves game. Eat world class food. Drive home on an actual paved pothole free highway. Go hiking at sweetwater the next day. Hit the beltline for a jog. And then go home and enjoy a nice sunset in the woods.

If you're single too it's amazing.

Atlanta is great.

Anyone else telling you otherwise is lying.

So, in fact making it worse....

Plenty of decent areas around Decatur, and downtown has plenty of options.
Marietta is fine and Square has plenty of places.

I love the area around Piedmont Park, but it is pricey.

There are 6-7 interstates, with 5-6 lanes each, going in and coming out. There are a plethora of sub roads, limited access, with 3 lanes on each side. These people at least made an effort. There are 1/2 million people in the city. There are 4 million in GA.

There are waffle houses and Wing shacks everywhere. The criminal element exists, but is not nearly as active as N.O and B.R.

Move out to Lake Hartwell instead.
