I will say, a Taco Bell in Cleveland at 3am probably should've had an armed guard. Like someone else said, three armed employees indicates an unofficial policy of self protection, maybe to save money on security.

That's where you misread me. I'm talking about getting froggy, even during an armed robbery, and causing damage to a third party.

You made the statement like it would be a forgone conclusion. The people who screamed bloody murder about Texas allowing CCW at public higher ed campuses made very similar, yet completely unfounded assertions. The statistics simply don't support your statements just like they don't support Page 9 in Taco Bell's employee handbook.

Regardless of what statistics may be, companies have an incentive to protect themselves from liability in these situations. I feel like we're just talking past each other at this point.

Probably to save their own asses since those employees had a better ground-truth understanding of the risks they were under than anyone in Taco Bell's headquarters. I've seen some hood food joints with 2" thick polycarbonate windows and the food is served through a metal grate, the employees definitely carried too.

The incentive is money, nobody is arguing that. They protect themselves from a perception that isn't suporrted by reality though, that is another matter altogether.

Hopefully the happy ending to this story will be that the other suspect gets caught and is charged with the death of his partner in crime.

Not sure exactly how the law is there but usually if someone dies during the commission of a crime the criminal can be charged with that person's death even if they didn't actually kill them.

No doubt the dead dude's mom will soon appear on TV whining that her son didn't deserve to be shot.

I just love it when the criminal's family is outraged that their loved one gets killed while committing a crime. Their indignation is usually quite hilarious.

There's also a line about every employee watching a robbery prevention video, which I doubt encourages them to open fire
Learn something for a chance

So in your world, employees should watch a canned training video and then make the life-or-death decision of whether to arm themselves in defense of their person and property based on that video?

If so, enjoy your life of subjugation I guess.
