Amazon Fire Kids Tablet. 2 years protection against everything possible. Netflix. YouTube. Kids apps. Games. Books. Whatever you want a tablet to do. Perfect for kids and really cheap.

I’ve got a 9 and 7 y/o. Wife got one of those $40 kindle fire thing for them once. It got broke when one hit the other in the head with it. Only device they’ve ever had and lasted a couple weeks. Wish I could help more

Today it's for "road trips"
Tomorrow it will be the daily babysitter.

Here's the one I got for all three of my kids from ages 6 to 11. They've liked the 2 in 1 one because it feels like a real laptop, but they use it as a tablet 90% of the time. It's worked great, good color on the screen and has expandable storage for extra apps or downloading movies. This just happens to be where I purchased it, but I think it's less expensive on Amazon. They have many different models of this same 2 in 1, so make sure you get the one with WiFi. This way you can control when they download apps and watch YouTube. It's been very rugged and held up well. My twin girls never broke theirs in five years of use. My son has dropped his many times, but only cracked the glass once (even with a case). The good thing about this price point is that another one can be purchased easily to replace it.

Obviously also a case with military grade protection because she can frick up an anvil.

This is the case my kids have used since they got it. Many colors to chose from, good quality and leather feel. Has protected the tablet very well, but adding a good screen protector wouldn't hurt. My twin girls just switched to an iPad this year. They are 11 and have proven that they can handle the electronics. I did get them a hard case this time to protect them because the cost is so much more than the Viking Pro. But they have many different cases and that's up to you.

Tech question: can you download movies on the kids tablet or do you need a data plan?
As long as the tablet has WiFi, then they can connect to your WiFi at home or to your Smartphone's Hot Spot. I set the tablets up to the WiFi at home and to my phone. When we're at home they watch YouTube and play games, then when we leave, it automatically connects to my phone and they continue watching their videos. As long as your kids are within range of you on your road trip, then their WiFi tablet will work fine. If they are going to be away from you or a WiFi source, then you'll have to get a more expensive tablet that has cellular and you'll have to get a number and Data Plan for it. Mine are always close by, so there's no need for my kids to have a tablet with cellular. Hope this helps.

If you connect it to Wi-Fi, you can purchase and download movies from the app store. You can’t go wrong with an iPad. They’re easy to use, and you can get a earlier model for cheaper. As for the case, an Otter Box or one of those Nerf cases.

Kindle Fire is what my 2 kids have. I got them on a deal 2 for $99. They're pretty cheap but perform just fine. Their grandparents bought the case so I cant remember what case it is, but it's good. It's like soft foam but pretty thick and has been good for us. If you dont get the data plan you can use your phone's mobile hotspot for travel and ,of course, wifi at home.

I second the Kindle Fire. Gave one to my great granddaughter for Christmas and she loves it. Won’t break the bank if you have to replace it a few time either.
