An Islamic State jihadist killed his mother in a public square in the Syrian city of Raqa who begged him to leave the organisation, a monitor said Friday.

Ali Saqr, 20, had reported his mother, Lina, to IS authorities in Raqa "because she tried to persuade him to leave IS and flee the city," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Authorities subsequently arrested the woman and accused her of apostasy, the monitoring group said.

On Wednesday, she was shot to death by her son "in front of hundreds of people close to the mail service building in Raqa city," the Observatory added.

There's no doubt that Islam is the religion most associated with despicable violence at this day and age..let's get that out of the way first so that some dingbat doesn't falsely assume I am sympathetic for Islamic radicals.

However, insinuating that this incident is reflective upon the religion as a whole is a bit disingenuous, don't you think?

I could dig up 20+ articles a day of horrendous acts committed by "christians" or people of other religions and those accounts wouldn't be representative of christianity either

Could you? Could you find reports of similar violence done by Christians in the name of Christianity?

This would be true if this was a single or even isolated incident. But it's not. From mass shootings, suicide bombings, beheadings of children, turning women and even young girls into sex slaves, throwing homosexuals off tall buildings, burning prisoners, crucifying prisoners, and now cases of mass sexual assault of white women across Europe it's past time to call a spade a spade.

I think the reported motive is the primary differing factor in your comparison. This mother was allegedly killed for begging her son to abandon isis. It's not just that a member of isis killed his mother, but he did it because she didn't support isis.

You do that. And "acts committed by christians" is not the same as "acts committed in the name of christianity" as this and many others were certainly acts committed in the name of Islam.

DO IT!

You can't. A horrendous act by someone who happens to have been baptized a Christian is a far cry from a Muslim who screams "Allahu Ackbar" while committing horrendous acts.

Your effort to equivocate the two is a miserable failure.

That is a bit of a stretch right there - I suppose if you were to scrounge around you could find enough murders to fit your quota - but what you could not find is an organized effort to promulgate those crimes in support of any version of Christianity. You will not find these murders committed 'in the name of' any version of Christianity or any other religion.

What you will find are isolated incidences of murder committed for a variety of everyday reasons - reasons that have been around since humanity began.

NO = there is no comparison between the frequency of Islamic terrorism and the incidences of ordinary crime in any other country.

I agree with the first part of your post, but this conclusion of yours is pure apologism.

eta: well shite, I responded to a Mullet Flap post.

It's ok, there has to be at least one contrarian post or the thread is an echo chamber and dies quick

Committing a horrendous act solely because of your religion and someone committing a horrendous act and that person just happens to identify as a certain religion...are two entirely different things.

Deflect, deflect, deflect

There is a difference between a crime committed by a Christian and a crime committed in the name of Christianity.

I can't recall every hearing of a Christian having their mother killed because she asked him to leave the church
