According to the EPA, cancer risk in Reserve is about 50 times the national average. Reserve is located within an 85-mile stretch of Louisiana, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, which contains more than 200 plants and refineries. The stretch is nicknamed "cancer alley" due to the high cancer rate in the region.

What’s the correlation on the horrible diet and obesity problem the people in the area also exhibit?
Not like Louisiana or that area is known as a bastion of joggers, runner, and cyclists living in peak or even average fitness either.

Petroleum products can cause cancer.
Not that difficult. Benzene and all that. Fat people usually have cardiovascular issues.

is that by the giant nasty acid lake near the bridge?

What’s the big deal? Are we supposed to live forever?

According to the EPA
I don’t doubt that chemical plants can produce toxins that cause cancer, but the EPA is a den of lies whose minions are willing to create and use false data.
They are NOT a scientific organization anymore, if they ever were. They are one of the most powerful tools of the neo-marxist left that denounces objective truth and pushes false narratives for power.
Can’t you see why the left is pushing neo-marxists into judicial roles? Prosecutors and Judges and tainted juries filled with MSM propaganda?
The courts were at least somewhat of a bulwark against lies.
Please note that I am not defending chemical plants or big industry. What I am saying is to Doubt All Claims of Truth Based On Modern Scientific Data, or simply because your Government says that something is true.

At what amounts of benzene is risk drastically increased? Are they getting lung cancer?
And fat people have higher rates of cancer as well as cardiovascular disease.

Without claiming to be an expert, I have read and heard many scientists claim that process foods are a major cause of cancer.
What’s more regulated, a rubber plant or Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and the things that go into processed foods like high fructose corn syrup?

For the down voters who apparently support the EPA as a non-ideologically possessed organization, can you defend the listing of carbon dioxide as a pollutant?
I mean, come on!!

The CDC and the Louisiana Tumor Registry have both debunked the entire “Cancer Alley” moniker (created by the President of OCAW) when they were locked out of BASF in the late 1980’s. Rates in the River Parishes are NOT higher then the rest of the state, and the types of cancer found are more relatable to diet, obesity and poor medical care (which also ties back to education).
And as for EPA, the current leadership, in Dallas and DC are environmental activists and community organizers. Sound science has no place in this administration. Just another Federal agency weaponized by Biden and his handlers, sent to wage war on oil and gas (Obama had already largely taken care of coal).

My mom was from Reserve and she died of breast cancer at the age of 69 in 2014. Her aunt died of breast cancer about 20 years prior. I know my mom carried the breast cancer gene so it's probably safe to assume her aunt carried the gene also.
With that said it would be interesting to know if any of these chemicals released from the chemical plants around Reserve activate the breast cancer gene... . Also my mom for her entire life and when she passed was the epitome of health. She owned and ran a Pilates studio until the cancer made it impossible for her to continue.

No one has to live there.
This is true. My parents finally moved out of the River Parishes to the Northshore in the early 80s as the chemical plants continued to grow in the River Parish area. With that said, Parishes like St. Charles are doing really well with tax revenue because all the tax incentives that the parish provided to entice business have expired. The schools, police, fire, etc. are receiving the benefits now.

If anyone has driven in that area for any amount of time, you would know why cancer is prevelant. The plants aren't the problem

Least shocking headline you'll read today. Who da thunk it?

Compelling arguments that cancer in this area is not significantly higher than other places.

I mean, the most popular restaurant in that area is named Fatty’s. What do you want?

Are the chemical plants in the River Parishes responsible for the highest concentration of NFL and NBA athletes per capita in the nation?

Yes. It’s like uranium, some people get super human powers while some get cancer. Haven’t y’all seen watchmen before?
