I downloaded the language packs for my ultra 25 a few months back. I can call someone and it will translate from 2 different language. Say a Spanish speaking person calls me it will translate what I say to them in Spanish and them to me in English. Pretty cool tech
I don’t think these are being recorded and may not even leave phone for translation, but as a just in case is there any requirement for notifying someone first that their words are being translated?
Also, has anyone on other end of a call had something similar or same translation service turned on at the same time you have yours on. Does one person have to turn theirs off to avoid doubling up or is it handled automatically?
Apple is supposed to add similar to that in iOS 26 which is supposed to be officially released Tuesday at their phone event but has been in public beta for a month or so. It could be done face to face and with translating texting/imessaging with an added manual contextual step or 2 since at least ios 18 I think, but it’s going to be live and automatic if turned on for phone, messages, and FaceTime with iOS 26 and at least a 15Pro or newer iPhone. I don’t have a phone that meets requirement and still deciding what direction I want to go there, so I have not used live translation feature yet.

iOS 26 brings exciting updates to the Messages app, including personalized backgrounds, improved tapbacks, AI-powered replies, and Live Translation support. Live Translation is one of the flagship features of iOS 26, built directly into the Phone, Messages, and FaceTime apps on Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones. It offers real-time, bidirectional translation of both spoken and written conversations. Whether you’re chatting via text or speaking with someone who uses a different language, your iPhone can now bridge the gap—instantly and privately.
Thanks to Apple-built models running entirely on-device, your conversations remain private. Not even Apple can access them, aligning perfectly with Apple’s strong stance on user privacy.
Requirements and Limitations
Before you jump into this futuristic feature, ensure you meet these key requirements:
Device: iPhone 15 Pro or newer with iOS 26 installed (currently in beta)
Apple Intelligence: Ensure Apple Intelligence is enabled in the Settings.
Apple Translate app installed on your iPhone
Supported languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified).

Like I said, BB came out with the swipe/gestures long before Apple did, starting with the Z10 in 2013. You can make it up all you want.
Do you think swiping and gesturing on touchpads only started in 2013? Do you think what was done on physical trackpads and PDAs before isn’t what’s being copied on touchscreen versions?
On touchscreens Apple was granted a patent (s) on swiping gestures on multi touch screens before iPhone release or right around same time. Other companies not RIM were doing similar. I know this has been specifically about spacebar becoming a trackpad, but don’t ignore the several companies doing the heavy lifting for multi touch screen gestures and swiping before 2013.

The BlackBerry Z10 introduced a gesture-based user interface with swiping and gestures for navigation, but it was not the first smartphone to use this method. Touchscreen smartphones like the iPhone had already popularized gesture controls prior to the Z10's release.
I didn’t find anything specific to the z10 and spacebar used as a trackpad which is what started this, but I did see one reference for Apple when searching.

The spacebar touchpad feature was introduced with iOS 9, which was released in September 2015.
Oh wait the blackberry had a vertical swipe to unlock phone while Apple’s was horizontal before it. So that might be the Canadian innovation…

I've always been an Android guy. Be careful with that fold. They do tend to break.

I have the Hub on my pixel. Costs me $1 a month but I like it and have it fully customized.
One thing that sets it apart is when you get your notification at the top of the phone, it includes a delete option so I can delete it right there without going into Hub or email app.

Huh so it's an android store app to buy. Is it under BlackBerry hub?

I’ve been an Android user for over 10 years but started using an inherited IPhone 13 when my Pixel 7a battery had to be replaced due to battery bloat.
I’ll take my downvotes but I’m getting an IPhone 17 when they come out. The apps I use work so much better with an iPhone. So I find it interesting to read about people switching from iPhone to Android.

i've never had an apple personally, however, i'm the only one in my family that has been just droid since smart phones came out....the original motorola droid max had the best battery life of all smart phones and that is why i went from them - the next motorola had gorilla glass and was unbreakable and didn't need a case...always wondered why people had iphones that broke all the time with terrible battery life - motorola stopped updating to new models and ended up buying a samsung 4 years ago - pretty durable as well
