So just learned I have to tap and hold and as opposed to just swipe.

The press and hold space bar (or long press) and then drag finger around to move the cursor helps with a large amount of text not just a sentence or word. I can place it anywhere in this input box for this post to edit what I wrote earlier without removing moving finger from keyboard area (keyboard turns into a pseudo trackpad) and then drag back to where I was afterwards. It is sometimes less consistent going down larger amounts of text when cursor at the bottom of visible text already due to limited space below spacebar (have to drag cursor up quickly and then back down quickly to get it to scroll down to text off screen). I haven’t used an android in a few years, but what I read at least was that the space bar swipe was to move within a word or sentence. Does it also allow to scroll up or down an entire paragraph or even page of words as well?

Regardless the swipe of the spacebar might start moving cursor quicker for a word or short sentence, but with an older phone running beta iOS I can barely get to the “mi” sound of “1 mississippi” before I can start dragging the cursor around this entire post.

Apple just has been stagnant for way too long.

That is part of Cook controlling growth to max out his supply chain which is his specialty. He would rather evolve at a control rate than revolutionize anything to make use of existing purchases and purchase agreements for parts and supplies (and Chinese labor).

That is where he takes advantage of the loyalty of Apple users. He has no tech vision but is operations focused and unwilling to allow his supply chain to take a hit even if that means lesser upgrades or long waits between upgrades for some products.

He also has executives who won’t rock the boat. Jobs put up with large egos if they could withstand his challenges of their positions.

Cook has padded the stock by constantly making record buy backs instead of bringing in some new tech blood with a true vision and IP to improve software offerings. I don’t think he wants to be undermined by someone who actually is a tech guy.

Also, Jobs would have never put himself on a cover looking like a dork for such a clunker of a product in its initial release.

I don’t think Jobs would have been ok with losing billions on Apple TV shows and movies just to sit at awards tables.

coukd easily see how they could manipulate this power and blacklist people from the modern economy. Maybe Apple could do the same but this is all so integrated and in your face, it's rather shocking.

Then why would you do it? Is convenience more important than autonomy?

Oh no, no, NO! No one other than old dad here is going to control the house temp. Certainly not giving access to that to an app.

I downloaded the language packs for my ultra 25 a few months back. I can call someone and it will translate from 2 different language. Say a Spanish speaking person calls me it will translate what I say to them in Spanish and them to me in English. Pretty cool tech

It’s cute how so many of you smartphone users cling to a belief that you have actual privacy.

And for you anti-iPhone cult members, my Apple ecosystem works just fine. It’s flawless, really, which I guess is what some of you are talking about when you say it’s “boring”.

What exactly is Panarir doing that affects us as citizens? I thought that they were more aligned with military use cases but I’m probably just ignorant.

If an android user has a good CrossFit workout and and just had a wonderful vegan lunch, what do they mention first?

That’s what an Android user called it when moving cursor.

I guess it depends on when it occurred the feature has been on apple for a while. It’s not a new feature.

Did blackberry have a touchscreen keyboard before Apple to even require turning into a trackpad for moving cursor around text?

Blackberry came out with the swipe/gestures first. Came out with using spacebar as trackpad first. Apple came out with touchscreen first. But make no mistake, Apple copied quite a few things from BB over the years.

I use the Pixel Pros. They cost as much as top line iPhone. I don't give the iPhone a thought. I have better things to do than worry about who uses what phone or which one is better.

iPhones are made in China.

It’s still an American company, and some iPhones are now actually assembled in India. Processor plant in Arizona is producing, but most of the processors are still built in Taiwan.

Apple iPhones are primarily assembled in China, with significant production also taking place in India and Vietnam. Components for the iPhones are sourced from various countries, including the USA, South Korea, and Japan.

Although range-topping Apple processors are produced by TSMC in Taiwan, a lot of the chips that it uses inside its devices are made in the U.S. This year alone, Apple says it intends to source as many as 19 billion chips made in America — and tens of millions of them will be fabbed by TSMC in Arizona.

"During calendar year 2025, we expect to source more than 19 billion chips from a dozen states, including tens of millions of advanced chips being made in Arizona this year," said Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple, during this week's earnings call with analysts and investors while describing Apple's manufacturing activities in America.

"We also source glass used in iPhone from an American company. All told, we have more than 9,000 suppliers in the U.S. across all 50 states."

Android uses the touchscreen space bar as a trackpad with swiping. Apple uses the entire touchscreen keyboard as a trackpad. It just activates the feature by a long press on the touchscreen spacebar.

Regardless with current touchscreen phones and touchscreen keyboards Blackberry was always fundamentally behind or copying Apple with the main concept.

Anything with physical trackpads Apple and other computer companies were doing before Blackberry OS existed. Anything OS related they were doing before RIM even existed.

The Apple Newton was probably doing some things before Blackberry OS.

This.

I have a fold 7 and the different ways that you can use the translating tools on it are a game changer for me.

Also as another poster sai it is an absolute productivity beast.

Like I said, BB came out with the swipe/gestures long before Apple did, starting with the Z10 in 2013. You can make it up all you want.

Oh yes, almost forgot. BlackBerry made the entire keyboard a track pad.
