Swimming in lakes/river/ocean

As we approach a holiday weekend, many people will be going to the lake to boat and swim.
Am I the only one who is kind of creeped out by swimming in a lake? I love being on a boat, but I just feel nervous when I swim in a chocolate milk colored water with snakes and fish and other shite all under me.
Same for the Louisiana and Galveston coasts. I just don’t love it. Am I the only one?
I’ll take a clear beach anytime, just the brown water is gross

I bet you’re awesome at video games.

Maybe you just need to stay in your clear water safe space like other snowflakes.

I used to go kneeboarding as a kid near the pearl river and there was a few times i fell in like knee deep water with tall grass. I was so scared a gator was going to attack me before I could get out of that shite.

What you don't like brain eating microbes getting in your body rolls?

Grew up swimming/skiing in bayous all over south La and not once did I have an issue.
We were trying to teach one of my wife's friends to wake board a few years ago over by the prop stop. A 6ish foot gator passes about 20 feet behind her. They DGAF about you in the water

Meh.
As a kid I swam in every kind of bayou, river, canal, and lake you could imagine

Lake scabies is on the rise now. Get tested.

I'll swim in a lake or bayou before I swim in a "clear water" public pool.
But I gotta say, the whole "flesh eating bacteria" thing gives me pause before I get in any water nowadays.

Swimming in lakes and rivers is trashy.

You don't like dark water, baw?

Looking back on it, the three instances where I will admit it was really stupid/dangerous-
We used to kneeboard alongside tug boats to catch the big waves.
Swimming in a bayou that was later found to have run-off from some facility that was polluting things big time. They got fined like crazy and I believe went out of business.
Swimming across the spillway down the way when it was very high during the spring.

You’ve not yet lived life until you’ve swung out over a pond on a rope swing.

Makes sense why you are scared of water that isn't clear.
Grew up on the river and bay, it never once bothered me swimming in there.

Yeah I don't do this
But I do swim in lakes without hesitation. I hate drifting near shore or getting in/out via slip/floating dock though. Too many stories about mocs

I never have such thoughts when I’m in Bora Bora.

You think there aren’t fish in the ocean?
