I swim with a masters group 3 times a week. I usually get in 2700-3000 meters per 1 hour workout. The ex college swimmers over in lane 1 get about 4000 in. The workouts at the SMU 50 meter pool get a little more distance in but I do the lunch workout at a 25 meter indoor pool at Baylor Hospital.

I'd love to join the masters group near me. But I swim at random times. Sometimes it's at 5 am, sometimes, 2 in the afternoon when work is slow, sometimes at lunch. Plus, I run and bike, so it has to all fit in with my plan with my other stuff.

I get lazy in the pool. If I'm not feeling great, I'll add 5 seconds to my intervals. Or I'll get 1500 in and just convince myself it's a bad day. I know masters will knock that out of me.

Also, I've never had a coach look at my stroke. When I'm fresh, I'm a 1:30 (maybe 1:25) per hundred swimmer at best. I swim pretty much anything from 500 yards to 1.2 miles at around a 2 minute pace. I'd like to get my top speeds up to 1:10 and my distance pace to sub 1:40. But in a year and a half, I've hit a plateau. Adult onset swimmer that it just doesn't click for.

The most I've ever swam is a mile in open water.

I miss swimming in a 50m pool. And I guess Phelps is there every so often too. Sigh.

I'm here to laugh at you... because i do 0 yards per year 4000 yards at your elevation is actually pretty solid. I trained with a team in denver between graduation and freshman year at bama, the elevation was no joke. Being in florida I'm handcuffed into outdoors only, so I'm a month or so out from ending my 15 year hiatus. I honestly have 0 intent of ever going over 3000-3500 yards/meters, maybe 3-4 times a week.

I would appreciate a link to that pdf you referenced... I'm so unmotivated to make up my own workouts. And in h.s. we did about 110-120k a week during christmas breaks . Our coach was notorious for his love of volume over intensity, but he's also known for turning out folks like lochte and caleb dressel.

I am in a pool 6 days/week...at least 4000/swim...at least 24000/week. Workouts I get from Auroa Masters Swim Team out of Colorado (nice PDF file of 365 swim workouts they have on the net).

Curiously waiting to see the former college D1 swimmers laugh at my yardage.

4K/workout isn't bad at all. I really need to get back into the pool. Its been too long and I need to shed a few pounds.

During Ironman training I'm putting in about 12K a week with a 5K day thrown in there. Swimming is certainly my weakest of the three sports though, but it's just not super important in long course racing at the age group level (if you're racing as a pro, it's extremely important).

Yep, love to swim masters at UK, but parking is a nightmare. I can not hardly wait for the outdoor city pools to open...Lexington has 2 Olympic size pools and it costs $40 for the summer. Training in a 50 meter pool is a whole another animal when it comes to workouts...plus you get a nice tan in the process :lol.

I swim at the Y...there is a group of us (3 former college swimmers, one former national masters, and a tri-athlete).
