Jimmy can play the hell out the piano

When flipping channels on Sunday mornings I would sometimes stop and just watch him play. His music ministry was really good. When he would start preaching I’d start flipping again.

Years ago, we were having lunch one Sunday at Piccadilly on Essen. In walks Brother Jimmy (in his finest powder blue suit) accompanied by none other than Big John McKeithen (white suit). What a sight they were.

According to their beliefs, all Swaggy and Gorman had to do to get full forgiveness is to simply ask God for such forgiveness in private prayer. They don't even have to kneel down or cry. FORGIVEN.

Sounds like it’d make a good movie to be honest

I think you're right. That would make a hell of a movie.

Who would our actors be?

Absolutely correct. I'm just saying that the modern mega churches have taken it to a whole new level thanks to online content and even broader cable satellite access.

What about a working title...how about “The Dirty Preachers”?

Oh wait, it might get mixed up with a film about catholic priests.

You built me up with your wishing hell
I didn't have to sell you
You threw your money in the pissing well
You do just what they tell you

Repent, that's what I'm talking about
I shed the skin to feed the fake
Repent, that's what I'm talking about
Whose mistake am I anyway?

Cut the head off
Grows back hard
I am the Hydra
Now you'll see your star

Prick your finger it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
Angel has spread its wings
The time has come for bitter things

Ole Jimmy turns out to be my 3rd cousin. Couldn't believe it when I found it in our family ancestry archive. I prefer claiming Mickey G. And Jerry Lee Lewis but swaggart was quite a character and maybe the best musician of the three cousins.

Is Donnie now the head pastor at FWC?

I thought his father was still the man.

In terms of modern Mega churches, Swaggart was marginal, though his bible college was large enough to warrant a sign on the interstate for the exit. Gorman's Church was simply a large church and he had a regional following but he wasn't anywhere near a Mega church. But those types of guys were the precursor to the Mega churches.

Breakdown for the OT: Swaggart and Gorman were wrestling in Mid-South at the St. Bernard Civic Center. It was raw, innovative, pioneering and exciting. Airline Highway $20 whores.

Olsteen, Hinn, and Copeland are in the WWE wrestling in the Pontiac Silverdome. Well produced, sterile, boring, with a license to print money.

Excellent breakdown, wish I had thought of it.

Swaggart had a lot more to lose. He basically was the only thing on Blue bonnet at the time and was building his "Bible College" on both sides of he street and had like a 10 story building under construction at the time and a few other buildings. I think he was able to rent out one to DEQ but I don't know about the others. His regular attendance went waaaaaaaay down after his whole "I have sinned" routine.

Gorman had a school on Airline/Tulane in NOLA - First Assembly and I think that survived for a while but is closed now.

Both are shysters

I've seen the still photos, but, technically, it was unnecessary.
