I have to say he was one hell of a piano player. Taught his cousins Jerry and Mickey how to make those keys sing.

Relax, man, it’s just a song, one of Zakk’s first rippers. Ozzy’s last performance with Black Sabbath is this weekend in Birmingham. Huge show, tremendous lineup.
You relax man, it’s just a joke.

I saw him at The Warehouse in New Orleans when Black Sabbath was touring promoting their first album.

While he did dabble in prosperity theories, he was on the fringe there. He also wasn't near the beginning of televangelism, which started in the 50's, Fulton Sheen is often cited as the first, but that is a bit foggy. These were preachers who moved over from radio. Swaggert was part of the massive televangelism expansion in the 80s where money became much more of an open focus of their time. IMO the con gets deeper the higher the percentage of time is focused directly or indirectly on the solicitation of money.

Jimmy Swaggart sold tens of millions of records and cd's. He wasn't taking the church's money. He didn't need to. The church's money goes to spreading the word of god and helping the poor and needy around the world.

King David had an affair and sent the husband off to the front lines to be killed in war. He is recognized as man after God's own heart.

Jesus hung out with adulterous women on more than one occasion, so he was clearly not as judgmental as we are of or certainly more forging of people committing adultery.

Paul persecuted Christians before going to the write (at least significant portions) 14 of the books in the New Testament.

Moses was a murderer, killing an Egyptian and burying him in the sand.

But the OT is viscous in its judgment of Jimmy.

The evidence was overwhelming. For example, here is his house that he bought with the contributions of poor suckers.

Love how most here are slamming Swaggart, when they most likely voted for the Ultimate grifter who cheated on all three of his wifes to run our country

Probably bought his phone, his cologne or one of the red hats.

Frickin hypocrites.

People crapped all over Billy Graham when he passed, I'm sure there will be little love for Swaggart except from Jesus. Of course, that's all that really matters.

His theology was not mine, nor his denomination but we share the same faith. I pray for his soul and I hope that as much as we recall his sins, the Lord will see how many people he brought to Christ. In an era of post-Christian postmodernism he was until recently preaching the Word on TV regularly. God bless his family.

I've been associated with "Brother Jimmy" in both a social or business relationship since the 80's. Anyone that knows me understands that I'm not a fan but I try to follow the rule of "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". It's a tough rule to follow with the Swarggart family but now that Jimmy is no longer with us the gloves are off.
First story, and this is a mild one. Many more to follow:
The early 90's, my girlfriend and a few of our other close friends worked at Calendar's Restaurant on Perkin's Rd. Great place. We hung out there every day. Every Sunday Jimmy would bring his entouage to the restaurant. Usually 16-18 of his elders, board of directors...whatever. They had a special table reserved just for them and they would conduct business for hours at the restaurant. It took four or more of the servers to take care of their table.
When the check arrived naturally it had the minimum 15% gratuity added to a party of 6 or more, "Brother Jimmy" would raise all holy hell and make them remove the gratuity proclaiming that "HE" would decide an appropriate tip. Then the 4 servers who worked 3-4 hours taking care of his large group would split a 8-10% tip. Every Sunday the entire Calendar's staff fought over not having to work Jimmy's table.

He fleeced people by pretending to be a genuine preacher.

I am prone to question the morality of any preacher because they all do this to some extent but the vast majority of them do it with some sense of human compassion and the work they do outweighs the damage they do to the collective intellect of society, but some go above and beyond the bounds of decency.

The Catholic Church may be the worst offender...the suffering of mankind which is directly attributable to the Catholic Church's theft of wealth from the poorest and neediest people who ever lived is deplorable. Visit the Vatican Museum and view, in person, the incredible wealth on display in a disgusting act of hubris and consider where every single penny of it came from and weigh that against the single despicable act of failing to denounce Germany initially for the "final solution" because it was eliminating the competition. Never mind their cover up of child molestation. These are modern day atrocities that have happened in the last 85 years. Add to that list the vilification of contraceptive in the third world so there'd be souls aplenty to contribute because it is getting harder and harder to sell their BS in the first world. Those alone are worthy of scorn....and that's just 3 in the last 85 years, the shite they have done from inception is mind blowingly disgusting and most of it makes these heinous three seem fairly benign. They are not alone, all of them are similar.
