Your title is a little confusing, almost makes it sound like the suspect was the phone with his own mom while he was murdering the teen, and the mom was in custody while on the phone

Fox left some info out of the story when they took it from the Desert News.
Makes you wonder if her family let this guy live there, and if they knew she had a "relationship" with him.
The deseretnews.com article is much more informative.
