Most of my family is AA.
Some who aren't AA should be.
So a dry evening is a good thing. Cuts down on the embarrassing rants.
My sister is hosting this one and there will be a decent wine for those not on the wagon.

My family is very reserved and there isn't much to talk about. it's so awkward . And no I'm not an alcoholic everyone , I'm just simply asking if anyone else has to deal with super strict rules at family gatherings.

What's the big deal about that?

It is a great thing, and if you can not appreciate that fact, you don't deserve them.

It's one day, give it up for the old folks man.

The only thing he said about his family was they are very strict and there will be no alcohol. Does that really make them better than families who do drink at family events?

I have many times. You respect them and deal with it. If not, sneak you a little.

growing up we never had booze for TG, and my family was not relgious at all. maybe the occasional glass of cheap white wine. once i got to college TG eve was the day when all the college kids came home and got lit, then were hungover for TG.

While you are grown, they are your grandparents and you should respect them even if their wishes are archaic. Nor having a few beers is not harmful to you.
Amuse yourself by spending your time thinking how grandma used to howl when her boyfriend before grandpa used to hit it doggy style, with a thumb kicker.

I never drink much before eating. After eating a big meal I don't want to drink anyway. No big deal. Sneak in a flask if you must

Both my family and my wife's family are extremely close and incredibly accomplished and I can't think of a holiday we've had together in 13 years where we didn't drink alcohol. Drinking with my siblings and brother-in-laws is the very definition of a great time.
Maybe alcohol has no bearing on good families.

My family usually has a good amount of wine and beer. We all enjoy the time together and generally will play some type of game together. I mean, no one gets shite faced.
I'm used to having it so to me it would feel weird not to, but if my gf family didn't drink I wouldn't die, but will admit would rather have something to sip on.

Your options as I see them:
a. Respect grandparents beliefs/wishes and do not consume alcohol while at the family get together. (Result - no chance of negative feelings as a result of your actions)
b. Ask your grandparents/parents if they would be ok with your having alcohol to drink at the get together. (Result- very little chance of negative feelings as a result of your actions)
c. Sneak drinks of alcohol in some manner. (Result - If discovered, fairly good chance of creating negative feelings as a result of your actions)
d. Openly bring alcohol with you and drink. (Result - Fairly good chance of creating negative feelings as a result of your actions.)
I would suggest option A or B.
My parents do not approve of alcohol. However, myself and my brothers and sister are ok with alcohol. Our parents know we consume alcohol and are fine with it because:
1. We consume in moderation
2. When in our parents presence we respect their wishes and do not drink at get togethers.
I would much rather go home knowing I was respectful of my parents/grandparents wishes than go home with a buzz and my elders perceive me as being disrespectful.

Appreciate the feedback, however my mom has come down with a horrible stomach bug so I think I'm staying home for thanksgiving because I have to work the next several days and I can't afford to get sick.

you mean like the belief that you cannot go one meal or a couple or 3 hours without a drink?
